Have you checked the tightness of the wafers? I don't know have your incubator works but I know that if the wafers are not snug they will not work right. I'd check your settings too.

Baking soda, peroxide and a little dish soap gets rid of most smells. Another option is to use dishwasher pods or something without bleach. This is what we use to get rid of cow manure.

I use either Rooster Booster Pick No More or Blue Kote to cover the wound with something that covers the red color. Both of these smell bad to chickens so they do not pick on the wound.
