Just thought I'd throw this out there - how about an electric poultry fence? We practically live in a forest where there's tons of predators - I've seen the fox strolling through at dusk, as well as a family of raccoons, and a mink that lives in the pond. My husband shot the mink but could...
That's good to know, thanks! I hope that's what she'll do also, before she gets hurt. This reminds me that I should probably put up some perches in the back - the ones I have are near the feeding area where the drama ensues.
That's what our chickens are doing too, she has to jump on the storage bin in the corner, terrified, while everyone else eats - I just hope she's getting enough to eat! Chicken politics is rougher than I expected!
Thanks, I had thought it wouldn't be so bad since they all grew up together but I guess I was wrong. I don't see any blood or bald spots but I'll just have to keep an eye on her...
HELP!! How do I stop my chickens from bullying this one poor chicken? I know this question has been asked on BYC before but I thought I'd ask it in case anyone has any new ideas.
We have 7 chickens (4 barred rock and 3 wyandotte) - they all grew up together as chicks since we got them a day...
Thanks for the info, I will definitely look for those to use for our moveable run area -we currently use chicken wire which feels too flimsy. I think your suspended shade cover for your run will be a good deterrent for hawks. We use aviary netting and a 10 x 10 canopy for shade. Someone on BYC...
They are a few days old in the picture but now they are 6 weeks old. At 3 weeks they did look like your chicks in the picture but I didn't have pictures of them at that age. They grow so fast!
My chicks are almost 6 weeks old too and we finally got them to go in the coop on their own after 3 days of playing catch the chicken, and they would huddle in a corner of the coop pooping into their water. Ended up getting a battery powered night light that we stuck to the wall with Velcro...
I think what I would do is remove the shelves and lay it down flat - if you have some extra hardware cloth you could flatten it out and use as a lid for the temporary brooder. That's what we did at first when the chicks started flying out of our tupperware storage bin. That's a cute coop you are...
Newby chick parents here, we got ours on April 4th and are in love with our new babies! We ordered 3 Silver Laced Wyandotte and 3 Barred Rock chicks, but Cackle hatchery threw in an extra Barred (maybe because one of them was small?)
Nerd Alert: We're going to name all seven after female main...
