Hi, everybody. Can't remember the last time I was over here, but I've acquired both a masters degree and a lovely daughter since then, and parted with a rooster who learned the hard way not to bite the hand that feeds him. (he was delicious)
Anyway, I still have 11 gold laced Wyandotte...

If there are fish in the water, you'll have really hyperactive fish for a while. My fish DEVOUR mosquito larvae--they don't stand a chance. A mosquito larva must taste like steak to a goldfish.
I've always wanted to try one of these: http://www.amazingflygun.com/ hee hee hee

Well, that's definitely a hawk alright! (calling upon my vast expertise)
I agree with everybody it's hard to ID with just a couple pictures. Those are really great pictures, by the way. Love 'em or hate 'em, you have to admit birds of prey are cool.
Question: How does it fly? Does it...
Interesting, Wikkit. Thanks. Just an idea I was kicking around.
I also heard wood ashes for dusting are good for killing lice. We always have more wood ashes than we know what to do with, so maybe we'll try that.

We're starting on our chicken coop today, and I have an idea. I've been reading about all the parasites that love to take up residence in a chicken house, and since our birds will be semi-free ranging, they'll probably come into contact with whatever the local meadowlarks, blackbirds, and...
Interesting stuff. Some of you have fun stories.
I play the tin whistle, also known as the pennywhistle, Irish whistle, low whistle, or simply "whistle," semi-professionally. Mostly Scottish and Irish trad and original stuff. I also play euphonium, guitar, bodhran, and too many other...
Thanks. The little guys are really cute. They seem healthy and they're a lot quieter than I thought they'd be. They really respond to our voices.
They're golden laced wyandottes. We have 20 more on order from the feed store (straight run, due this week!), and Mrs. Badger just ordered 100...
McNugget #2 arrives on the scene.
We've been incredibly disappointed with our hatch--only two out of 20+ eggs! But I got to watch this yesterday, and disappointing or not, this was a pretty cool thing to get to see.
It's the CIIIRRRCLE of LIIIIFE.... (come on, everybody sing along with me)...
Good thoughts. Sunny side up, I agree with your take. We have the advantage of being hunters, so I don't think we'll struggle when the time comes.
Here is what has to be the most humane way I've ever heard of to slaughter an animal, from a book by Tim Cahill, one of my favorite writers...

McNugget #2 is officially no longer an egg! They both seem healthy. I actually was watching when the second one hatched. Got some really cool pictures of the big event. Stand by.
