    Winter heating

Temps here in WI get to -40 once every few years, and -20 to -30 every year. I never heat my coop. Keep them bone dry and out of drafts and they do well.

    Possums and skunks

Comes on discussion forum: Gets pissy if people discuss what was posted. On another part of your post. I had a skunk that lived under my chicken coop for three years and interacted with the chickens daily. During that time, raccoon attacks on my chickens went to zero. Well worth the very...

People still aren't doing this. Please folks, it really does help people that may want to help you.

Metal Roof In Wisconsin Winters - Insulation? Foam caps? Plywood? Or will just purlins do?

I use commercial rubber roofing. It's very thick. I know you are short on time, but in the future, if you are driving around and see work being done on a large commercial roof, just ask one of the workers if you can get the stuff they are tearing off. They have to pay to dumpster it and have...

Metal Roof In Wisconsin Winters - Insulation? Foam caps? Plywood? Or will just purlins do?

You are probably right. A bare metal roof on a coop in WI would be a very bad idea. It transfers cold much more than wood does, it gets condensation in the coop, it's really noisy in wind, rain, or when something like a branch falls on it.

Woods Open Air Coop Scaled Down (Can I do a 4 x 10?)

For the record, that is a wood tick, not a deer tick, and doesn't carry lyme disease. I'm in WI, have a Woods coop, have wood ticks and deer ticks, have had lyme disease. We have some things in common :)

Metal Roof In Wisconsin Winters - Insulation? Foam caps? Plywood? Or will just purlins do?

Not sure what you mean by "very good insulation" because Woods Open Air coops aren't normally insulated. I have a Woods coop. Mine has OSB, covered by rubber roofing material, covered by metal roof.

What happened to my rooster's eye?

Young Copper Maran rooster, 9 or 10 weeks old. I've had him and his siblings in a temporary fenced area. The gnats/mosquitoes/flies are bad this year, and the nice shady spot they are in has lots of them. I'm wondering if maybe someone bit this little guy? The area around his eye is swelled...

    Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I reread my post, and in case it is unclear to anyone, I have three 1 year old Russian Orloffs, not some number of 3 year old Russian Orloffs.... English...

    Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Anyone in WI looking for roosters? I have 3 year old Russian Orloffs and 5 9 week old Copper Maran roosters looking for a home. All are healthy and happy. The Orloffs free range, as will the Marans when they are a little older. I'm happy to drive a reasonable distance to meet if someone is...
