My wife, out of nowhere, hit me with the idea of having some chickens in our backyard for eggs and fun. I was a little shocked because it didn't sound like her but I told her I thought it was a great idea. So she said that's what she wanted for her mother's day present; a coup and some...
She been broody for over three weeks now. I'm kicking the idea around of getting some fertile eggs for her to hatch. Is it too late to expect her to sit another three or four weeks?

What kind of soil do you have? Sandy or Clay, Alkaline or Acidic?
Blueberries like friable, well drained, acidic soils. If you have alkaline based soils you'll have difficulty with blueberries. You can grow then in a whiskey barrel in a mix of peat moss and compost (or a good...
Most lawns need a shot of fertilizer in the spring to get rolling, another midway through the summer and a winterizer in the fall for optimal growth and greening. However I doubt that your problem is a lack of fertilizer.
Here in South Texas we've had an unprecedented drought. Our lawns are...
I appreciate the responses everyone. Thank you very much.
I didn't want to bias anyone's guesses, so I withheld my suspicions about the I.D. of the chick in question, but EE is the most likely candidate. I had ordered 11 chicks knowing they were going to throw in the extra free chick to...
The Brahma never really took off. It always looked smaller, and was docile, often off by itself. But she did have a sweet disposition.
I have one unidentified chick that came in the batch. It looks like the EE that died ( or its the EE and the unidentified chick died) Anyway, they...
Thanks, I'm a little disappointed as on of the chicks was the lone EE and the other was a light Brahma that the hatchery threw in as the extra bonus. The Brahma had really caught my eye and was my favorite . Oh well, nothing I can do about it now.
By the way, that's funny about your chicks and their waterer. Mine take all of about ten minutes to foul it up. I put it on a board but it will need to go higher I noticed.
I appreciate all your help. As it turned out the brooder has been too hot. I was quite surprised at how far away I had to get the lamp before the temp got into the high 80's. I feel pretty lousy about that now. They were acting a lot different, spreading themselves out around the brooder...
