    Khaki Campbell

I have a cattle dog as well. Just got my first two ducklings. The cattle dog is great for pushing the chickens around the yard and keeping them in line, but anything small he tries to put his mouth around. Once they are bigger, Kodie tends to just push and move, not snack.

    Duck Pond Questions

I am a "I have it done before it's needed" kind of guy. That is where the urgency comes from. Something I am aware of, but it's good to have it pointed out every once in a while. Mum - I figured as much with the above ground, as far as ice goes, I would probably install a tank heater if need...

    Duck Pond Questions

Hello All. I have a few questions regarding duck ponds. First I would like to give you all a little bit of an idea of the challenges I am facing. I live near Denver. I have been wanting to install a pond/water feature at my house for aesthetics, but now will want it to be functional for the...

    Dogs eating chicken poo

Thanks for all of the posts. I know that animals (including us) have lots of things in them that are nasty, but are managed until we have a compromised system. I keep all my animals very healty (to the extent that I can). My dog likes to eat lots of things that I don't know about and I think...

    Dogs eating chicken poo

I know this is only half way chicken related and will probably get a bump to move this to the "other animals section" My dogs have been eating chicken poo and I had to give wormer to the dogs once already. Well this morning had the same thing happen again. Dog made a nasty mess in his kennel...

    Is this a rooster?

I really wish people would read the thread before saying "Roo!" "Oh yeah.. Definitely a Roo". I refuse to put my chicks on here for this reason. I don't need people freaking me out with their uneducated guesses. I have seen too many people say "Oh no. I have to give away my chicken now!"...

Sandy Deposits on EEs eggs *pics*

Do you supplement with extra calcium? I would imagine that it's excess calcium. I had a chicken that laid eggs with this on them, but it was not quite as heavy.

    Hens eating pine bedding-Help!

Mine do the same thing. It's not a large amount. I have kept an eye on their droppings:sick but everything seems to be working fine. I probably wouldn't worry to much about it. Maybe they just like their fiber

Had a hawk perched on my coup with my 5 5week old chicks inside this last weekend. He won't be back again. Identify the culprit and deal with it accordingly.

I need help! Are these roos? *new pics added*

The rock is definitely a roo. Notice the tail feathers, long and starting to curve. You can also see that little oily looking dark feather in the tail, that is a pretty good give away. Had a rock that started as Gaia and was Guy at about that age, and looked exactly like that.

Who will lay first!? *pics included* UPDATE: First Egg 8/14

I just started back up again with chickens after a couple years of saving to buy a house so that I could again have chickens, so I am a long way off with my 4 week olds. I had three EEs, the first to lay was laying tan eggs to start, but they turned a very light shade of green after about a...
