    So, I eggtopsied one of the eggs that did not hatch under my silky hen and this is what I found. Its brain is on the outside of its head and its beak is crooked. I have never seen a chick so deformed. Sorry if anyone is squeamish about the pics.

    Black - she is the only one that hatched but I just hatched another set and have 5-6 black chicks - we will see if they turn out like her.

    I got a new job today, so my husband bought me a “Congratulations on your new job” present. A six ft tall B.A.C. (Big ass chicken)! LOL - maybe it will scare off the predators!

    She is the size and shape of my Orpingtons. My new batch of chicks are just a week old so we will just have to wait and see if any look like her

    When I bought ducks, the lady I bought them from told me to never feed medicated chick starter to ducks, she said it was lethal to them.

    I had to laugh as I have a broody silkie too. I just gave up, she is obviously born to brood so I just let her be her.

    i have a batch of eggs in the bator and the first chick hatched nearly 24 hours before the next one. No sooner than #2 was out of the shell, #1 went after it, pecking, jumping on it, yanking in its wings, etc. I took #1 out and put it in the brooder where it cried and threw a fit. Fast forward...
