I was told by several people on this site not to give them layers until they start laying. I was told the rule of thumb was, starter to get them started and layers when they start laying.
Thats how I felt. My 8 year old granddaughter has been helping me raise these 6 baby chicks and has been patently waiting for the eggs just like me and one day she went in the coop and yelled out"Grandma there is a egg in the nesting box and it's real and I am not kidding" I literally screamed...
Thanks, I just started the oyster grit just in case, the lady at the feed store told me only to give it to the in the winter because they cant get to grit like things with snow on the ground but someone else told me it helps build better and harder eggs so I went with that and they have had it...

So when I got home from work I went out to collect eggs I have 6 chicks and I found 7 eggs I put the chicks away at 9:30 last night and check the coop thoroughly as I do every time I go in the coop yesterday I only had 5 eggs at 9:30 last night I had no eggs and today I have seven how does that...
