    Doe Hurting Kits

New Zealand rabbits and yes we have been touching since birth. I don't know how long her nails are but they are sharp as the scratches on my arms can attest! She is a good size doe and although the nest box seemed big enough, I may try a larger one. I am limited on nest box size to the size of...

    Doe Hurting Kits

Hello All, One of our does had her first litter of 10 kits on June 1. She built her nest about 4-5 days before having them and until 3 days ago, she was doing what we thought was a good job with them. 3 days ago we found a dead kit with what appeared to be a bite mark or deep scratch on it's...

    Water cups

I use both a waterer with cups and a bucket with nipples. Each have a heater in them. The chickens prefer the cups and as long as I keep the heater close to the cups the water stays unfrozen until the temps get below 20. The nipples stay unfrozen down into the teens. Many times the cups look dry...

Winter is almost here!! Share your tips and tricks for coping the elements with your chickens!

6° in Ohio this morning. I have a light that's on from 5:30 -5:30 and an aquarium heater in the waterer. The girls stay in the coop or in the enclosed pen. They haven't ventured out into the big open air fenced in area since we got 5 inches of snow Tuesday. Between the light and a small radiant...

    Water cups

I have an inverted reservoir type with a heated base. I hung it to try and keep it cleaner. I also had to put a "roof" over it as the girls would sit on the bar I hung it from and crap in it. Regardless,i t still gets very dirty and it froze solid at 25F. The water in the cup waterer didn't...

    Water cups

I had to keep pressing the yellow tab for a day until they figured it out. It took 2 days before they all got it. Now I have a problem trying to keep the cups from freezing. I put a submersible heater in the container but the cups still freeze. I bought a trough style heated waterer but the...

OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

I'm hoping that if no one buys all 10, he will be more willing to split them up. But right now I noticed one of my girls is a little hoarse and I need to address that issue. I will keep all posted and thank you for your interest!

    Need coop design advice.

I have both. Well, I actually have 2 coops, side by side. One coop is 4x6 and sits on an completely enclosed 4x10 tractor enclosure. The other coop is a 8x10 walk-in coop with a 6x4 walk in enclosure. Both coops open into about a 20x20 pen with no roof. It's great that your coop is a good size...

Not an emergency (I think). Young broiler has dark green diarrhea and impacted crop.

There is also a fairly informative article here: http://www.motherearthnews.com/homesteading-and-livestock/raising-chickens/raising-broiler-chickens-zm0z13djzmar

Broilers will eat themselves to death if you let them. From what little i've read here, they should only be fed once or twice a day. If you put 'broiler chicken' in the search box, you'll find a lot of info.

OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Hello from Newcomerstown! We are about 10 miles outside of town at the southern tip of Tuscarawas County. We just started raising chickens this year and currently have four Golden Comets that give us four eggs a day and are spoiled rotten.

    Ohio Newbies

Hi everyone, My wife and I are new to raising chickens, and although I've already posted a couple things here, I though I should post an introduction. We live in Ohio on 12 acres of land that we built our retirement home on last year. We have always wanted to homestead/ farm and are now...

Winter is almost here!! Share your tips and tricks for coping the elements with your chickens!

This is our first winter also. We are in Ohio and some winters can be brutal. I have a 2 gallon water bucket with cups that have a little lever in them. It took our 4 girls, golden comets, a day to figure it out. I have a bird bath heater that I'll put in the bucket to keep the water from...
