ok..I'm not the only one then! I'm using an 18% protein food and occasionally I take them some fresh lettuce, 10 grain hot cereal with some ground beef....They love it! I'll keep them warm...man these ladies are high maintenance! lol. Thank you for responding ;)
Ok, haven't been on the chat lately. Why do chickens decide to molt in November when they need their feathers?!? In Montana, they started molting around Nov 15th...it's now Nov 30th and it's 8 degrees outside. I have laid down a thick layer of pine shavings in their coop and "living room" and...
Yes, I see that would be a great option but I don't want to build anything. I'm so hoping I could pay 1/4-1/2 the cost of a Carolina Coop unless a few people here would say they are totally worth it. Maybe I'm not searching google properly.
Hi! Has anyone here have experience with Carolina Coops? I've been looking at them for a few years now and was curious. They are super expensive but I'm looking for a long term investment and plan on having 6 chickens routinely... I also have been looking at Amish made ones. Google search...
I'd love to go oystering on the Washington coast!...set up a cooler or table on shore and shuck what I caught with a good, cold, tasty beer and a warm fire pit, during sunset...
Eagles, Hawks, Crows...we have a huge fence around our property that is super reinforced at the bottom so nothing could get in down there. Aerial attacks are our bugaboo!
Thank you for the info! I think I'll grab some sand and clear out a little area under the coop as my coop is 2 feet off the ground too. The middle picture is the covered outdoor dust bath that the girls use all the time...they just won't go out there now in the snow.
Yes, they are eating and drinking in the covered run, but I'll be back with pics so you can see the layout. They have an upper coop with their roosts and that's where they sleep. They walk down the ladder in the morning to the covered run where the food/water/grit/oyster shells are....I keep...
Hi! Does everyone include a dust bath in the winter months? I have a covered one outside but it's in the 20's consistently now and the girls don't leave their coop! I can't really get any dirt right now...thoughts? Oh! They do have an enclosed covered run but it's small and I have their...
If it's in the 20's or below, twice a week, I've heated up 1 cup of 10 grain hot cereal...adding kale, 1/2 of an apple diced, and some meal worms tossed on top. They love it...but I think it's more for me that they have a warm meal lol. I don't think that could hurt!
Plus they have access to...
I may just be paranoid from losing Winston but it was odd behavior for her. May it also be the quick change of weather? I'm in Montana by the Canadian border and it went from summer to winter extremely fast.

Last egg..not sure. I feel like a bad mom because everyone seems to know when each of their chickens lays an egg. I get 4-5/day consistently, unless I deep clean their coop...I think they get mad and maybe I'll get 3 that day.
Crop is flat...no bumps/lumps. Tail is normal, in...
This is my first time on this chat. I am a novice chicken owner with a 3 year flock of 5 now [started with 6], lost my girl Winston [blue orpington] a few months back. She was lethargic and shied away from the other girls, a little diarrhea but other than those symptoms nothing was too scary...
