One of the new guys coops.

They can only come in or out when I have the door open for now. But when I put the pallet in place the door holds open. I'll take it down when I close up the coop for the night.

One of the new guys coops.

I've got 21 chickens in a 20x100 run and I've been housing them in 2 medium sized cages, and large 10x10 baby fence with a makeshift roof and a large dog carrier for the last couple weeks. Well having that inconvenience in housing the birds I figured I needed to get a coop done ASAP. So on the...

2 Lavender Ameraucana x Dominique Roos in Southern Illinois

Wow, if I wasn't waaaaay too far away I'd be all over the muffed roo, putting some lavender and barring into my already colorful bloodline Easter eggers would be cool. He is a gorgeous bird.

    How to deter hawks?

You make proper effort to deter, prove it, and if the raptor is persistent you can be issued a permit to kill any raptor attacking your live stock. I have one, my neighbor has one and my dad had one when he was living. Every kill must be reported. We still have a pair of redtails here that...

    How to deter hawks?

Where I'm from you have the right to dispatch any animal threatening your livestock. But you are required by law to report it with all birds of prey you have to dispatch. In my opinion, I'll practice preventative measures. Killing a majestic bird is just not something I care to do. But I'm...

My flock grew by 12 this weekend. I got two more Easter Eggers, 3 Light Brahma, 2 Speckled Sussex and 5 Buff Orpingtons. So now our flock is to 21. Happy happy! I let my wife and kids pick most of them, but the Easter eggers I want a lot of color so I picked those two. I love my flock. I...

She seems to understand and be ok with the fact that were about to take the 4 cornish x chickens and put em in the freezer. That was the part I was kind of worried about. But we've never sheltered our kids from reality. Even after growing up on a farm it's still not easy for me to take the...

My daughter apparently has a green thumb and is natural with animals. She absolutely LOVES the chickens and has her own flower garden. We didn't help her much at all with it, and you see that sunflower, and her zinnias are booming. She's going to be a great helper on the farm.

Those birds were very over crowded. Part of the reason I'm going back to get more. Now the 5 new chickens will have plenty of room to run. I'm sure the picking will stop now that they have MUCH more room. Most birds there for sale had bare butts, some even having bare backs. I gotta get...

My new chickens are a little poor looking right now, the Easter eggers have nearly all the feathers picked from their bums and they are very pretty but look lopsided lol but given enough room they'll fill out to be pretty birds. The two buffs look great though, their pen wasn't nearly as...

I'm still here, just been busy with work. We just got back from picking up 3 more americauna/Easter egged pullets ( I understand they aren't the same, but I'm always skeptical when any chicken is advertised americauna), and two buff orpington pullets. I'm going back next weekend to get me one...
