He's giving me the evil eye!

Hey everybody, We got the chickens for the fun of it and for fresh eggs but ended up with more roosters than hens. One guy is a four month old Minorca rooster that is behaving strangely, well to me anyway. I never had chickens before and hatched these guys from eggs so I don't know what to...

I know some are roosters! First timer though so please tell me more!

OK. DTchickens knows his chickens! Also agree with Rootball on the black one. I was trying and trying to look at all the photos here on BYC and other sites but there are so many breeds I was going crazy. Thanks to you guys I can now tell others what I have with some confidence. Can't wait...

Thanks guys! The last one (poor photo) does not have feathers on its legs like the brahma one does. Its legs are black though. The black&white one and the brown&black one seem to do all the crowing. I keep watching for the others with combs to crow but haven't caught them at it yet.

I hatched out an assortment from MM and this is what I got. Their personalities are as different as their looks. They are all about 9 weeks old. I have an idea what some are, but exactly what would you call these. I know the photos aren't the best, but what do you think? All I...

Anybody going to be hatching around March 22?

Ok, I couldn't take it any longer. Another one just hatched and was laying there and the three older ones were all standing on him while trying to get the lid off the bator. I took those orneries out and now they are sleeping under the brooder lamp. The poor baby can now recuperate.

Anybody going to be hatching around March 22?

Hey everybody - I had two chicks hatch early this morning, then three more during the day. My bator is pretty small and they are jumping all over the other eggs and jumping at the corners like they are trying to escape. Should I take them out and put them in my brooder yet? There are still...

I just heard a peep-peep. Can it be true?!? Is it possible? Or am I just imagining???? Wait......., I just had my wife listen and she says she heard it too. Do they chirp or cheep or whatever before they even break out???

Anybody going to be hatching around March 22?

I'm glad yours is working well. Mine is made from an old discarded photolab contact printer. It isn't that pretty but it is heavy duty and has a big glass window on top. I figure if they do start hatching this weekend me & wife and kids will be fighting for the best view! Ok, I must stop...

Anybody going to be hatching around March 22?

Mine are due on Sat. 21st. First time hatching with a homemade incubator. Everything seems by the book (or web I should say), only ???? are these: 1. Low humidity at the beginning - about 40% until I got a humidifier and set it up outside the incubator. Now I can get it to hold steady at...

Thanks Nicola. I'll do that test as soon as my peeps get out of there!

    Temperature sensor question.

My first attempt at hatching is due this Sat. 21st - wish me luck. I studied up pretty good before, but since putting the eggs in my homemade incubator I've learned things I wish I had known before, so this question is to help me next time. I have seen several photos of the same or similar...

Thanks everybody. Yes I candled them with a flashlight. The first time I could see something in all of them except two, they were clear so I threw them out. My wife wasn't keen on the whole idea at first but now she says if they don't make it we can buy the chicks if I want, so I'm good...

Hey everybody. Hoping to become a chicken person like you all. I've been reading the forum for several months and appreciate all the good advice. I often wished I lived out of town on a farm but never made it, so when I picked up a magazine with a chicken on it recently I thought I'd start...
