    Sick hen. Panting. Not pooping.

She was all fluffed up in her nesting box, but didn't try to bite me when I took her off of her nest, but she did grumble a little bit. Her crop was a little mushy. I gave her syringe water with ACV and tried to "burp" her, but she didn't throw up or anything. I could feel grit in her crop. Her...

Hubby did the deed and checked for an egg. He said he couldn't feel anything. He said she had pooped and it looked normal. She was up eating and drinking at 9A. I will feel very silly if she is just going broody my girls get layer pellets, a cup of scratch grains/day and oyster shells at choice...

I will see if my hubby can send me a pic. I had to work. I gave her a bath last night. It appeared to just be poop. I did not check for an egg, but I will as soon as possible. I can get calcium tablets. For now, I have mixed oyster shells into her food and have her seperated.

    Sick hen. Panting. Not pooping.

A few days ago I noticed that my laying, Buff Orpington had a messy bottom. Today she secluded herself in the coop for hours. First on the roosting bar, then in the nesting box. I can't prove that she isn't laying, but we have been 1 egg shy of the norm all week. I gave her a bath and put her in...

    Spurs on Silkie Rooster

I had them quarantined for about a week. I got him and his lady friend. She doesn't appear to be as old as he is. I gave the hen a bath. Neither of them appear to have any pest. I'm chalking it up to a hard lesson learned. I would contact her, but it would probably be more lies and I absolutely...

    Spurs on Silkie Rooster

I am very disappointed that we also paid full price, but he is a lovable Silkie Roo, so we'll take the time we have with him. He doesn't look like he had a very good coop life previously.

    Spurs on Silkie Rooster

It is definitely starting to grow into his foot. He was a very good boy and let me and my husband trim them up tonight.

    Spurs on Silkie Rooster

I'm new to chickens. I purchased a Silkie rooster last weekend. I was told by the breeder that he was about 9 months old. I didn't look him over extremely well because it was freezing cold out and the breeder insisted that we meet in a public place. I was checking him over today and I realized...

Thank you. I am 99% sure that this is exactly what happened.

    Sick Silkie

Yes, but with it being so cold out he didn't want to go out into the run out the last couple of days. Do you suspect sour crop?

    Sick Silkie

When I got home I transferred him into quarantine. I noticed his crop was squishy, so I massaged it. He started spitting up and freaking out, then he passed. RIP Peep. I'm watching the others closely. I just completely cleaned and sanitized their coop and cleaned all water and food containers...

    Sick Silkie

I'm heading out the door to pick up another brooding light to separate him. I'm thinking potentially coccidiosis? Is Cordid a good option to treat? The closest option to us to get treatment is a TSC.

    Sick Silkie

I went out to do chicken chores this morning and I realized that one of the silkies was acting strangely. It is a straight run and is only 3 months old, so we're not sure of the sex. It is about 36 degrees in their coop this morning. Peep is all fluffed up and standing alone. He acts like he is...
