He's going to live in the country with a friend who has a farm. I am more than a little worried about this but there's not much I can do about it as we can't keep him where we live.
He is getting loud and I work all day so I really hope he's not home crowing away now that he's found his voice!
Okay crowing started early and went on better part of an hour today. Getting stronger and better at it by minute. Funny how he hid it for the first 4 months. Now he won't shut up.
When he was strutting around this morning puffing out his chest and ruffling his neck feathers (before the crowing begain), I had a very hard time calling him a HER. And I"m no expert but that my friend looked like a ROOSTER.
Almost like he felt that he can finally come out of the closet with...
How old is your roo? We convinced ourselves last night he was a SHE because of the colors of her feathers (black and white vs. gray), and her somewhat faded looking waddle which is still small but probably growing fast. Yours is soooo bright red as is alot of others we saw on the web. We are...
Yes this is what I was afraid of...he was supposed to be a she! He is lovely and is part of the family. Now we have to get rid of him.
Thanks for your help.
Continuation of my new obsession- trying to ascertain my chicken's gender... Here's the link to youtube audio...17 seconds in there's a noise. Crow or egg song?
Thanks in advance!
Okay folks not a great video but there's a decent audio attached on Youtube of our hen/rooster "crowing" this AM. So is it a male or female?
Thanks in advance and eagerly awaiting replies!
It crows well one time at about 17 seconds...
thank you again!
We are going to work on getting a video with the "crowing" sound for all you chicken experts. We are hoping that ends the debate...???
Right now its a bit of a relief to see this split of opinion since we're so confused. We are new to chicken ownership but like her/him very much and don't want...
Is there any way to share audio on this forum? If I catch her/him in the AM with my video camera it would be helpful for this new chicken owner to know the sound a regular old hen makes in the AM.
That was why we really started wondering. She/he sounds like she's warming up to crow loudly and...
But she/he is much larger than the other four we have of different breeds but same age. She is very aggressive (and always has been), and is much louder and may have begun a crowing but its early yet so not ready to say its a full on rooster crow. Have to check on that tomorrow AM.
New to this...
