    It appears to be bullying…

The roosts are about 1.5-2’ above the nests. My wording may have been misleading in the OP. They basically have 8’of roost space, 2@4’ length; Roosts at same height and separated by about 15”, but 1.5-2’ higher than nests. The nests do occupy this 24sf space and I have 6 in this area.

    It appears to be bullying…

I’ve read quite a few threads on bullying and I’m still kinda not sure what I should do. I posted a couple days ago about my Buff Orpington looking a bit rough - feared that it was mites. Bought treatment but haven’t used yet. I haven’t used because I believe I have discovered one of the...

    Mites??

OK, I increased the motion sensitivity of my in coop camera - no one was pecking her overnight. She seemed to be doing more grooming than anything. I did notice that she was alone on the roost and the other 5 were on the other roost. Don’t know if that makes a difference or not. I’ll try to...

    Mites??

Hmmm They are all in the coop on the roosts, which are the same height. I believe she is getting picked on. What can I do to help her?

    Mites??

I kinda thought someone might be picking on her but I’ve not seen anything overnight on my camera. I’ll up the motion sensing and see if I pick anything up tonight. Guess I was wrong, I thought I read that ashes and/or DE was good for them in dust bathes, helped to prevent mites as it...

    Mites??

OK, I have read a lot of threads on mites and how to treat the chickens and their living area. Honestly, I don’t know if I have mites or not…my hens are 9mo old, I have 2 each: Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, and Gold Laced Wyandotte. Only ONE hen is losing feathers, one of the Buffs. It was...

    New chicken mama’s coop

Yea, I just don't understand how this guy builds so many and delivers all over the place, how/why the hardware cloth wasn't put on the outside, why the auto door wasn't put in place of the large coop door, why there are no purlins, why, why, why. Grrrr. So, I've got to start working on things...

    New chicken mama’s coop

I know there are already a bunch of threads on new coops…I guess I’m just trying to post what my coop/run is at this time. 😊 I didn’t have any help back in mid March to actually build one, so I found a person/company on Marketplace to build one for me. I really didn’t know what questions to...

You CAN Raise Chicks Outside in Cold Weather

Just put the food/water in the coop with them, they had gone in there while I got the drill/screws & rod to hang the food/water on. They seemed to kinda like it better in there, especially with this wind. Maybe let them out on Friday or Saturday as it’s going to be nice weather for them...

You CAN Raise Chicks Outside in Cold Weather

So would it be better if I just locked them back up into the coop till Sunday or Monday? I think you’re right that it would teach them that that area is home.

You CAN Raise Chicks Outside in Cold Weather

I’m headed out to check on them. They do have access to the coop but I closed the door to it this morning. I guess I should be leaving that open for them. I’m trying to learn myself and also tech them to go into the coop in the evenings - thought it might be better to make them stay in the...

You CAN Raise Chicks Outside in Cold Weather

OK, temps today here in Ashe Co NC is around 48F but winds are getting up to 20+mph. This is only my 7wk old chicks 2nd day living outside in their new coop/run. I guess I’m concerned that the “feels like” temps are going to be too cold for them? Should I just leave them out in the run with...

Question: introducing chicks to the coop / do they know to go back to the coop?

    I don't have any advice - I'm in the same coop. :D
