I hear you, but unless the prescribing vet knows that the bute isn't being used on cattle it can be. Even dairy cows. Metronidazole is the only thing other than thyme tincture I've seen recommended to get rid of canker in chickens.
Not arguing, just trying to figure out how they can prohibit...
I'm dealing with a health issue and can't check all of my flock right now. I just lost one to what looked like canker yesterday (I had no idea she had it) Can ACS be given as a preventative then followed up with probiotics?
OK my definition of Banned, means you cannot purchase them at all. However, my gelding is on phenylbutazone 1 to 2 mg twice a day for sidewinders syndrome. I was also able to purchase metronidazole. This is somewhat confusing to me. I may not be understanding. Any additional advice or...
OK what was I thinking? I'm getting about 16 eggs a day (some days more, some days less). 36 total flockers...6 roosters, 7 too young to lay which leaves me with 23 layers...all are pullets too! Lord save me from egg overload.
Raising my chicks for the first time with the momma heating pad. I lost 2 due to the others smashing them, but the rest are doing great! They came in when the forum was down, I was so eggcited to share these and get feedback, but alas it was not to be...currently chicks are about 4 weeks old...
Trying to figure out dimensions... I will be making one big MHP cave, but am not sure how tall it should be in the center. It will be 24" X 24" so all 25 chicks can get under the same one. Wondering if I should make 2 separate "caves" or stick with the 1 huge cave for all. Temps are now...
Sorry if this has been asked already and I missed it, but I'm wondering how many chicks will fit comfortably under the MHP? I have the Sunbeam XL 12" x 24" with the auto off as recommended. I am expecting 25 to be shipped this week... Temps are predicted to be 75-80 degrees during the day and...
Sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. Do you have dogs? I had 2 little dogs that dug under the run and coop and chased several of my girls to death. Then a few days later they did it again (they were escaping their yard and killing the hens for fun) and also mauled them a bit. Last night...
You probably need to confine your chicks in an area that cats can't get to them. Wait until they are older and larger before letting them out where cats are. My cats didn't bother my girls at all because I waited until they were about 5 months old to let them play outside their coop & run.
I have the open box ones (my neighbor made them) and those plastic ones I just bought last month during chick days at Tractor Supply. Right now I only have 2 hens that are old enough to lay, the others are 3 months old and 2 months old respectively. The older hens are only used to the open...
My breeder does them at 1 day old. There is a lot of info on this right here...just go to the search area and put in Mareks to find info from people here. :) Good luck with your flock.
