I'm thinking the same thing. I must not have gotten it all. So now that the scab is healed up over the infection, do I cut into her foot to get the infection i missed out? My poor chicken. I used some fabric bandages and then used electrical tape to keep it in place. Ghetto, but it kept it clean...
The nail is not split, but the 'toe' is so swollen that the toenail almost looks like it won't stay on much longer. It's not bloody or anything though. This is what the bottom of her foot looked like 2 days after I pulled the scab and what I thought was all of the infection out. I cleaned and...
Don't apologize! I've had chickens for awhile now, but this is the first time I've had to deal with bumblefoot so your pictures are helpful. :) I didn't pull much out actually because the scab popped off and I couldn't find much after the initial 'plug'. The scab is healed over now, so I'm...
Have a hen that we treated a few weeks ago for bumblefoot, but we didn't catch that she had it until she was just laying around and having a really hard time walking, limping, etc. She was easy to treat, cleaned her foot with antiseptic, popped scab off, drained wound until only blood came out...
I have somewhat of a dilemma. I have a chicken who's just over a year old that has gone broody several times already. None of my other chickens do it, just this particular one. I've always taken her eggs away from her and that usually solves the problem, as we don't have any roosters, the eggs...
I've never heard it make any sounds other than huffing and heavy breathing. I've never heard a quack out of it, actually. And I totally forgot to answer your question about the Texas thread/group on here. I havent looked for it yet! :)
I know right?! This one has me in a pickle, there are characteristics of both. The muscovy is about 5 months old, and I guess they are just a larger breed than my pekin and swedish blue, but the muscovy has the biggest feet and claws. It's been biting at the chickens lately too, but that may...
How is this? I've noticed that our drake is getting friendly with our other hen, but not messing with the muscovy at all. Maybe because the muscovy is so much bigger, hes feeling a little inadequate. Haha.
Thank you! I tend to read a lot on BYC, but I never actually joined until a few days ago, getting used to it all. :) I'll grab a picture of her from the front tomorrow!
Ah, I did not know that. I was given this duck when one of our others was taken and killed by a hawk :( so I'm pretty new when it comes to muscovy. I made his/his picture my avatar, not sure if you're able to enlarge it or not to see. Thanks for your input!
Well, for whatever reason, I can't get a picture loaded, I've tried twice. I have a few other breeds of duck, but this is my first muscovy so I figured I'd get some opinions! :) I had also read that they differ in their face, drakes tend to have more prominent caruncle than the females, and mine...
