I have gotten the " don't you need a rooster to get eggs?" question many times....
i do not know about other parts of the country, but up here in the northeast there used to be a commercial from the "egg council" (whatever that is???) with the jingle "brown eggs are local eggs, and local eggs...

ok, virgin hatcher here too, am getting some live chicks also , but my wife wanted to try hatching so we got some eggs and an incubator and are giving it a go... hatch day is the 28th(our live babies get here the same week!),got some black copper marin eggs because she saw them on the martha...
My wife and I ordered our first 12 yesterday, will be here week of april 25th... leave in a rural town so should not be a problem... have not checked with the town yet... so who knows.. well 12 is a good start... went to the local Agway... was only going to get 8... they have a 12...
