Not sure about the Tylan 50. I imagine it wouldn't hurt her as long as you don't overdose (kind of like Tylenol for humans). I'm not an expert on this, so you might want to search it in the forum for more information. As far as the disease, it sounds more like Coccidiosis to me than anything...
It sounds like your little chick might have cocci. Where did you get your chicks? Do you keep them outdoors or indoors? Also, are they getting medicated feed or have they been vaccinated? I had an older hen that had the exact same symptoms, and from what I can figure out, she had cocci. She died...
Hey everyone,
We have a gray chicken that looks sort of like a Silkie (but not quite) and she has been acting quite lethargic lately. She doesn't do much. Just in the past day, she stayed in the coop all day and wouldn't come out. She is an adult chicken; we've had her for about a year and a...
Hey guys-- this seems like an older post but hopefully you can still answer my questions. I have the same thing, except on my chick's leg.
Her leg is limp and unusable. Advice on how to treat it?
Alright, I tried to get a picture without moving the leg too much-- they're not very good, but they're pictures! It looks like the green may be spreading up the leg. Under the feathers the skin looks like its getting green further up. Is this an infection and is there anything I can do to stop it?
Its green just on the leg, at the top where the feathers come down over the leg. I will be posting a picture when I get home and the camera is charged!
Will post a photo in the morning! There does not appear to be any ruptured skin. The only thing I can see is the green skin where the leg meets the feathers. No swelling, just a limp and useless leg! Thanks for your help.
Hey everyone,
I believe my six week old Golden Comet has a broken or disjointed leg. She cannot move it and it just kind of hangs tucked up underneath her body. At the hip (or what I think is the hip) she has green skin, very different from the other leg. Is it broken? Infected? I don't have...
We had a Silkie do the same thing-- she would not leave her eggbox, even at night. I had to move her physically into the coop at night to keep her safe. Once, she got lost for a few days and I thought for sure she was gone...
We found her the next afternoon in the underground rabbit hutch...
I used to have two Rhode Island Reds and a few other common breeds (Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, etc.) and the RIRs were always the most impressive layers! They laid large brown eggs and continued to lay in winter even when the others slowed down. I recently bought six Golden Comet chicks, so...
Hey everyone! I recently bought 6 new Golden Comet chicks from my local Tractor Supply. They have all settled in nicely; however, the other day I found one chick lying in the yard, unable to move. One of her legs is limp and she doesn't seem to be able to move it. All she can do is stand on one...
