Sorry if I used the wrong term. The eggs do have shells, but they are all thin. She actually laid 2 eggs yesterday. I have not seen her do so before.
The one on top looked normal and had a thick shell. I am sure that this is true for many people...

We are not really able to keep roosters as we live in the city. We ordered straight run silkies and were fortunate enough that 10/15 were hens. We have no rules about keeping roosters, but people can file noise ordinance complaints. As our neighbor's house nearest the coop is only about 30 feet...
