All of that information is definitely reassuring and helpful as I was looking at completely other issues from what I read.
Can I find what you are talking about at TSC or should I just get it from a standard drug store?
Thank you for all of the information @azygous.
Sorry if I used the wrong term. The eggs do have shells, but they are all thin. She actually laid 2 eggs yesterday. I have not seen her do so before.
The one on top looked normal and had a thick shell. I am sure that this is true for many people...
Hello,
I have done a bunch of reading, but was hoping for some more specific advice since these 2 things seems related.
1 - We have 10 laying birds that are all 1.5 years old. The lady with a swollen abdomen is definitely the top of the pecking order, but very sweet. She is a Buff Orpington...
We are not really able to keep roosters as we live in the city. We ordered straight run silkies and were fortunate enough that 10/15 were hens. We have no rules about keeping roosters, but people can file noise ordinance complaints. As our neighbor's house nearest the coop is only about 30 feet...
Here is our coop. It was built between July and December of 2016. We have our first chickens enjoying it now!

Thanks to all of the great designs already on this website, I was able to avoid a lot of regrets I might of had if...
We have 5 beautiful and friendly silkie roosters we are trying to give away. We are located in Raleigh, NC. They are available immediately. They are 21 weeks old as of yesterday. We will also have a few hens for sale in the near future.
We are located in Raleigh and are first time chicken owners. We finished our coop this past fall/winter and received our first batch of 16 chickens (which ended up being 20) in late February.
We have 1 Black Australorp hen and then several Splash & White Silkies (both hens and roosters) that...

Hello,
Our splash and white silkies will be 18 weeks in just a couple days. We do not have any layers or crowers yet, and while I am fairly certain certain ones are hens and roosters, I would love some additional confirmation (or help with the ones I am not sure) since this is our first time...
I received 20 chicks in February in Raleigh, NC.
All chickens are 17 weeks old today (June 21, 2017).
They were raised using a heating pad in our shed until they were ready to go outside. They have been fed organic starter feed. All chickens are healthy and happy.
We only wish to keep 10 out...
Going to try this again. These are just our splash silkies. They will be 17 weeks in just a couple more days. We think there are 3 roosters and 3 hens, but one of them is hard to tell. They are numbered to help.
