    Favorite Books/Authors????

I loved the Nevada Barr series as well until it came to child trafficking one and I quit.

    Lead hen attacking rooster

Thank you. Next time I need a rooster, I will try bantam. It's so hot here (low 90s with heat indices of 100) that I wouldn't think he'd be mating as much. But, I remember my teen libido, lol! I may just have to keep him isolated longer. And congratulations on becoming the newest moderator!

    Possible egg bound hen

I think you could have both at the same time. If you think that's the case, do both treatments at once. Give calcium citrate plus vit D and an antifungal cream. The cream might help the pill go down easier!

    Favorite Books/Authors????

My faves, and let me tell you, totally different spectrums. Absolute fave author/ series is Diana Gabaldon and the outlander series and all the spinoffs. Second fave is the Mark Tufo Zombie series. Third fave A American Going Home series. I have a few more. But what is your fave, I need new...

    Giving chicks to broody hens

Wow, yes, always worth a try!

    Lead hen attacking rooster

Thank you Oldhenlikesdogs. I plan to keep him isolated where they can interact for at least several days. But I remember doing that with my old rooster and he would just come out with even worse surging hormones. Different breed, and this one is supposed to be a gentler breed. I guess if I have...

    Possible egg bound hen

I have never had a case of sour crop and hate saying that out loud because now I'll be cursed with it, but there is much advice on the site about how to treat it. I believe a bit of miconazole or other anti fungal put in the beak is the treatment. Runny poop can have many causes, but I'm glad...

Thin shells and no shells, plus watery droppings

How old are your hens? Mine seem to all get reproductive issues at age 3-4, despite layer feed and free choice oyster shell/crushed egg shell. It seems like you are doing everything right. Hopefully someone more experienced can help.

    Possible egg bound hen

You may have a case of sour crop. What are the symptoms that made you think it was egg bound as well?

    Sudden bloody and black poop

This is definitely not intestinal lining and I've never seen this much red with Coccidiosis either. What is their diet? @Eggcessive

    Mites or Lice

I am leaning towards lice. Mites are red or black. Elector PSP will take care of both.

    Possible egg bound hen

I've never felt for one but have read many a post here how to do it. My first reaction is always the calcium citrate with vitamin D. I crush it and mix with a cooled scrambled egg for them to eat. That's worked for me several times.

    Giving chicks to broody hens

At two weeks I feel they are already too energetic and independent to slip under a broody. I also feel if the hens just went broody and you don't wait until day 20 to slip babies under, it may not be believable to the hen. I've not tried it but have talked with a few who have. I would wait until...
