Here's a picture, if this is helpful. It comes out in the garden but there is a shallow little boggy area where it lands.
That picture is from the right of the earlier picture. The little cabinet is new - solar controller and battery.
When I was designing I think I figured 2 inches slope...
I think for that many ducks, it would need to be bigger both so they would have room to move around and to account for how dirty they will make it with poop.
We have 4 ducks and a pond about 6ft x 8ft, 18 inches deep at most. Pic below. It is slightly in the ground, but mainly I built it up...
We would get only hens, no drake, if we were going to do it again. We aren't trying to make new ducklings, and in our experience our drake goes through spells where he only wants to mate one of the hens, which is way too much for her. So we have to separate him, which is a hassle.
Also, you...
Hi @DuckDadDilan sure, I took some pictures and saved them in this Google album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/GHxYsXYsGqFgwdwM9
Here's the pump we have: https://www.thepondguy.com/product/the-pond-guy-solidflo-g2-pump/?sku=130320
It works, the only issue we have is the single solar panel isn't...
When we moved to our home, there was an old garden with a 7ft Frankenstein fence. We kept our ducks in there, and smaller predator proof enclosure at night.
We lost 1 to a large hawk or eagle. So we built a fully enclosed run, instead.
When our Pekin had bumble foot, it looked similar but worse (picture attached). Our vet told us to get him rubber mats to stand on instead of flat ground, to provide an uneven surface and reduce pressure on any one spot. And get him in the pool as much as possible. And oral antibiotics... Now...
Thanks for checking in. Continues much the same.
How long would you say it should or could take?
Our drake has had 5 months with the new lady. She seems to like him. She seeks him out when they are separated and sits next to him through the fence.
But he still only wants to mate her, and...
Our jumbo Pekin has decided our new hen is his one and only favorite. She's a Rouen, on the small side, so not only is he over mating her but he's so much bigger. We can and do separate him, but that means he can't access the pool, he's walled off on his own. Our ladies then spend a lot of time...
In a heavy rain, our pen floods some. It slopes slightly towards one side, but we installed 2x8 all around the base of the pen for security. I attempted to provide drainage by digging 18 inches down under the 2x8 and filled with river rock... This worked for the first several months but has now...
Thank you Debbie for sharing. It's not a bridge we had to cross yet. Sorry my title was alarming - just meant to ask for perspective or experiences, and we appreciate what you shared. We have a couple of older ducks who seem like they are starting to slow down.
Preferably of old age, of course, but this question extends to injured or sick. When it is time, do you let them pass on their own? If they are in pain, do you put them down, if so, how?
Thank you in advance for sharing. We have a mix of young and old ducks, regardless of age the day will come.
