Well I have 3 12 week old Hens and Had a 12 week old rooster but I gave him away as I live in town. This was two days ago, and for the past two days I have had to deal with some chicken runs/escaping!
The other night I couldn't find them to put them away and they were all in separate trees...
Have you tried putting them on the roosts at night? I had to do that a little the first week I put my ladies outside...They'll figure it out eventually.
My gal's and 1 boy are 10 weeks just about, on medicated purina starter/grower.
Does purina Starter grower have grit in it? When can I take them off the medicated stuff?
They are in an outside largeish run, should i start offering a bowl of grit for them to munch on or mix some in the feed?
I'm struggling with a similar situation punk-rock....I am trying to introduce a 10 week old Australorp to 2 8-week old RIR pullets and 1 8-week old RIR rooster...They've been together a week now and they are somewhat tolerant of each other but the three RIR that I raised on my own still...
Is it probably best to separate him from the 3 girls? How contagious are eye problems among chickens?
The other question is what should I flush it out with? I have some eye drops "Naphcon A , eye allergy relief" lying around or should I just get some saline eye drops to do this?
Thanks,
Well, I have an 8 week old Rhode Island Red rooster named blondie and when I went out into the coop this morning to open it up and let everyone out I picked him up and his right eyelid was closed...
There was no "goup" or puss surrounding it, he doesn't have snot around his nostrils crusted or...
I must say, I remember when I was raising chickens with my dad way back when we had a broody hen who secretly laid her eggs under our canoe and would stay there over night sometimes and we'd be worried sick. I hope she turns up
Well I swear the 4 chickens I'm raising right now are the only ones I've ever had that don't love all sorts of treats. They are still young, and only roughly 8 weeks old, but I occasionally throw bits of lettuce, bread, carrot tops and other veggies I'm done with and they peck it once and move...
It's hard to tell...
They are on a mixed grass/dirt run.
Ironically I think my chickens are the only ones who don't like treats...I throw them bread and bits of lettuce and they peck it and go back to their feed...lol.
They are 8 weeks now, still on medicated starter feed.
In terms of...
Well,
I don't know if I'm just over worried after I read peoples stories here on respiratory diseases and other illnesses but....
My 2 pullets and 1 roo that are 7 weeks old occasionally sneeze now and again but nothing that seems serious...I'm not sure if they are gaping or gasping though...
Yeah I'm headin to the feed store to pick up some DE after work, and I was gunna work on making a covered dust bath as spring time out here in Oregon is hit and miss for dry dirt weather....Should i just poor in and mix up some dirt and DE for a dust bath? I think i've seen bags of dust bath...
Thanks for the advice dude,
The I'll try to make dropping boards soon but my hens are still young and sort of like to nest in the bedding now and then during the day and at night usually roost but sometimes nest in the bedding....Can you get the food grade DE at a feed store?
Is there anything I should be adding to bedding to lower the risk of mites, bugs ect...? I use pine shavings and change it out once a week but is there something I should or could add to lengthen the life of the bedding? And or improve their health, they have a 60 sq ft run but not much dry...
I have almost the same problem but not to the extent.
My 3 7-week old Rhode Island Reds sneeze now and again, but exibit no extreme behavior...They have just spent a week in the coop and every now and again I hear a sneeze....
Anything I should add to the water or feed? They don't bang their...
