Hi there, we are planning on hatching by incubator some of the eggs from our two pair of American Buffs. They are mild tempered and gorgeous, and each pair has hatched and raised a gosling (we only let them sit on a couple of eggs). Since it is our first incubator attempt I am leery of...
Hi all, I love reading about and seeing your girls (and guys)! We have had chickens, ducks and geese for several years now, and previously to expand our flock we would let nature take its course. Last year we acquired some Mandarin ducks, and would like to begin some focused breeding of them...
This is Sunny (aka Fabio). We are pretty sure he has a BO daddy, and strongly suspect a RIR mother. Welsummer mom is also a possibility. He's a teen right now, sigh. Any thoughts on the parentage?
This is Nibbles.
She is a Silver Appleyard hen who has decided to sit on out American Buff goose's eggs. The goose is a little put out and has taken to wandering aimlessly. Should I try to have the goose sit on some duck eggs?
We have 2 pairs of buffs in their second breeding season. Duchess had made a beautiful nest, and it got co-opted by Nibbles the Silver Appleyard duck. Now poor Duchess seems to be at loose ends and is driving her mate Yelp up the wall. Should we try to get her to sit on some duck eggs?
This is...
We have 2 pairs of American Buff geese. The 2 girls were both sitting (they are only a year old), and only one successfully hatched. I was concerned, but the girls sorted it out; they share the baby! Here are the 2 mamas with baby, with one of the proud daddies off to the left.
Oodles was the first of the girls to set, and she hatched 5. She was pretty protective, and would quack up a storm as well as charge us. The charge would stop about 2ft away, she'd quack some more, we'd pet her and the babies and that was it. Thank you for the welcome!
We have about 20 ducks, 4...
We are in central Indiana and our favorites are our Buckeyes. They are dual purpose, fairly smart, and our roosters are friendly and watch after the girls well. Our hens all got broody in the spring and were not aggressive or crabby with us. They were also good moms. They have a smaller comb and...
Some of our current chickens were here last year with the negative temps, so after the first snow they mainly acted resigned. The newer ones decided snow is,not their favorite thing. One hen kept leaping/flying from perch to perch when outside the coop so she wouldn't have to touch it. Funny!
Our chickens didn't mind the tons of snow we got last winter. At times when I went out to feed them they would disappear into the snow as they came out to greet me. Then HOP! They would jump forward only to disappear in the snow again. It seemed to snow all the time, so I got used to seeing them...
Egggandquackers we have Silver Appleyards as well. We don't have any with red heads, but we have a light brown hen. Here is a pic. Your girl looks adorable!
