My leghorn girl is aick and I haven't a clue to what's wrong. She's been like this for a few weeks. We have no vets in the area that handle xhickens so I can't take her anywhere. I've been reading and searching but have found nothing. I've posted a picture. She is eating and drinking. She still...
Thank you for your reply and information. She was just over 3 years. I did notice her sneezing goop when she was flopping around. Also after she died it looked like she had runny eyes. The coop is well venilated, weather here has been cool and haven't noticed ammonia smell.
Had the strangest thing happen. Night before last when putting the hens to bed, one of the girls was "sneezing" a wee bit. It was late and myself not feeling well from a cold, locked them in tight for the night. Yesterday when I got home from work, I let the girls out of their run and sneezy...
I have a sick hen. Shy of 3 years old. She's been sick for about a week now. I really thought she'd be dead by now. She's staying underneath the coop but must be coming out to eat & drink. When I first noticed she was ill, her comb had flopped to the side and is pale in color. No known trauma...
I have others & have not noticed them messing with her. Something strange tho...last nightwhen putting them to bed, she was on the nest. I thought it was weird but also thought maybe her laying schedule was off. However, no egg from her today. I gave her a "rectal" exam today and felt nothing...
Ame home from work today and my leghorn pullet seems veru sick. White pastey rear, hef comb is completely drooped over, she won't leave the coop. Whe I picked her up to check her out, a watery discharge poured out of her mouth. Please help! She's just shy of 2 years old.
I now have the product to treat for mites. Am I correctly assuming that the coop needs to be thoroughly cleaned? What about the outdoor run? Our weather is still very cold. Do mites survive outside in the cold?
My hens have bare butts. No feathers. Feather shafts only on some, bare skin on others. Two of them have "peed" on me during inspection of said butts. Very watery..just like pee. All acting normal.
Could it be a molt? They are 21 months old and have never molted, that I know of. Could it be...
Using DLM for the winter and will clean out once the weather gets warmer. My question is What the heck to do with the used shavings/poop when I clean out the coop? Any suggestions?
I have one leghorn and 3 black unknowns and 4 brown unknowns. I guess I'll wait and see. My luck is that they'll molt in January when our weather is coldest!
