I am currently struggling with this in my Flock. I was told by two people on island that it was an eye worm. I have manually removed the puss/worm but her eye is still closed, though it’s now closed and flat. I have put deworming bastenero in their water once a month, tried vet rx both in the...
I only have four hens. Today, I found SIX eggs, when I usually get 3-4 eggs a day. What could have contributed to them laying extra eggs out of nowhere? Not complaining at all. It’s great! I’m just very curious. Not sure if this is a factor, but I had just given them a monthly dose of bastenero...
Here is some more information that might help you all guide me:
- the chicken is not lethargic
- she does not smell and is laying
- she is not struggling to breathe or sneezing and coughing
- I tried to put vitamins in her water but she wouldn’t have the water that way so I put her back on...
Hello, just as a follow up question: it has been two weeks. The chickens eye is still closed but she is otherwise healthy. The other hens in the flock are also healthy and have not shown signs of any eye infection or issues. We do not have an animal doctor that does chickens here and the feed...
Thank you for the response! The perches are not above the nesting boxes. They are across them and quite far, but I can definitely try putting the plywood over them. Any ideas why they’ve suddenly started doing this though?
And just to clarify: my perches are much higher than the nesting boxes. They are low and opposite of them. They have truly never ever done this in the whole time I’ve had them and I don’t get it.
Hi,
In the coop, there are perches that the hens sleep on when night falls. They perch on them every night. This past week, the hens have not got on the perch and seem to be trying to perch suddenly on the corners of their nesting boxes. I would not care otherwise but this is creating a TON of...
We do. He’s actually a wild rooster that made himself at home shortly after we brought the girls home. He seems to be scrapping with the other wild ones often. I saw him kick others out of their gated area a few times (which I’m grateful for). It’s so frustrating trying to keep all the wild ones...
There are a ton of wild chickens in my area that have become really aggressive w my hens, trying to enter their gated area, chasing them when they forage the property, etc. there are many wild roosters too. I noticed the past week, even more wild roosters and wild hens (w their chicks) are...
Are they blood? Poop? They wipe off with a firm scrub and end up looking like all the other eggs. Curious about why one hen has them but the other four don’t?
