Others are all fine. I opened up the crop of the last hen and found nothing. I was thinking I would surly find some string, plastic or something. Just grass, scratch and some bug parts and a horrible stink and lots of liquid.
Are the crops full in the morning? Any smelly breath, or neck twisting? Maybe try some bread dipped in olive oil, and massaging their crops. I think eating anything is a good sign. Mine had stopped eating anything.
Sounds like you have it licked. As long as they're eating, drinking, pooping and acting alert and normal, you should be good! :)
I just lost a hen to what I think was sour crop, and nothing was working. She stopped eating and drinking, I tried everything I had...
I decided to open her crop and...
This morning I lost the second hen in a month to an illness that I can not figure out.
Both hens were over a year old. One a red sex link, the latest a speckled sussex.
They both are with a flock of about 80 chickens, they free range and spend the night in coops.
Both have been wormed recently...
The only thing I can think of, it sounds like sour or impacted crop, maybe? Is it hard or mushy? I didn't know little chicks on starter needed grit, but I guess they do? I always use dirt and sand for litter so I haven't ever used any.
I'm struggling with a mysterious illness myself, which...
Thank you!
I've cut the infection out of one of my hens, but it was no where near as big as this. Besides that, I sincerely love my Voodoo, and it pains me to do anything to him that might hurt him. I love all my chickens, but I have a special relationship with Voo. He absolutely knows his...
Thank you. I'm not sure if I have the stomach to do all the cutting and digging requred to treat this...
Any tips or advice would be most appreciated!
Allears, he's a Jersey Giant rooster. His name is Voodoo, he's the sweetest, gentlest rooster ever! He's almost 5 years old, and I adore...
I can't tell if this is bumble foot or a callous. I thought bumble foot, but there is no "lump" that I can see. I don't want to start digging into this foot before I'm sure.
Thank you!
I was thinking it might have something to do with internal laying.
I kept her inside last night and dosed her with the Tylan 50 again today. She ate a little bit and her bottom stayed clean since her bath. I put her back outside just a little bit ago, and will continue the antibiotic...
This hen was acting lethargic, and had yellowish sticky droppings all stuck to her bottom several weeks ago. I brought her in, wormed her, cleaned her up in a warm epsom salt bath, and gave her .5ml of Tylan 50.
I kept her isolated, and dosed her with the Tylan 50 for 5 days. She seemed to perk...
Thank you for the reply. I ended up just taking the keet back outside after about 1/2 hour in the house, and let it join the others. It did fine.
My guineas were given to me, and I really don't keep them in a coop. I taught them to nest in the barn rafters. The momma guinea built a nest out in...
Hi all,
I had a guinea hatch out some babies about a 5-6 weeks ago. They've all done well, but right now we're experiencing an awful cold snap. Colder than usual for this time of year. It's only in the 30's today, and with the wind and clouds feels even colder.
I'm wondering if I did the...
