I have a coturnix quail that is not standing up. Breathing fine, eating and drinking but not standing...looks odd. I am not home and have a pet sitter there. I have separated and given electrolytes in water...any ideas. . I have a Youtube link with video: https://youtu.be/vzlP_FNy8kA
If my family can't eat meat that we process, I think we should consider not eating meat. Again, I didn't want to have male quail and have the prospect of processing them, but I am responsible for them now however that came to be. I can't seem to give them away, and they are already starting to...
Need to know how this ended. I am in the same situation, not really by choice. I got some quail that were supposed to be female and they are not...now the seller is not responding, so I am stuck with about 7 males and 6 must go. I can't seem to find it in me to do it but I was thinking this...
Ok, I definitely got a lot of males in my "female" chicks. I am happy to know, @Nabiki and @muddy75, that they can be sexed that early, but that it may be difficult. These are Coturnix, so not sex-linked quail eggs. I do wish the sexing had been more accurate of course- as I have a lot of...
So, several questions from a new-to-quail but want to continue with them Chicken gal.
1) How early can you sex your quail? I bought some to go with some that I incubated, and at the time the lady that I bought them from said they were all female. It seems dumb now, but they are not (to the best...
I incubated and hatched 3 chicks...kind of a fail on my part because I had 14 eggs. I decided to pick up some chicks that were born on the same day as mine that were born, all Coturnix Quail Chicks. They are not supposed to be jumbo, but I am seeing a pretty dramatic size difference between mine...
Thank you. I am going to hold on that as I found a local breeder that has 2-3 day old quail that will fit nicely with my own, born at about the same time. Thank you for your response just the same.
Ok, so after reading all the posts...and then losing our wifi connection for a while...I went with a waterer with marbles in it but will move to the slightly elevated quail waterer after the first week or so. Everyone's input was very helpful and I certainly appreciate you all weighing in on all...
Do I need to use a dish with marbles and water or is my Quail Waterer 1.5 cm trough sufficient to prevent drowning of quail chicks in the brooder? Nervous.
@Nabiki that is cool. I may need to use it again as the foam didn't work at all...they pulled it out. I am keeping an eye on them and will keep your strategy on hand as a work around.
Thank you @FloorCandy and @Izzy Dietzler that's so helpful so that I feel like I can walk away and just let things happen now instead of hovering and worrying all day!
@KaLe dA QuAiL Thanks, I needed to hear that. I read so much about never, never open the incubator during lockdown and hatch- It was making me crazy with worry. Thanks again.
@maxride14 - that is awesome...I was stressed for you too and waiting for the update. Great job!!!
I just had to open my incubator because I had a chick stuck in the space where the turning mechanism is for my egg turner (which is disconnected of course) I am at 3 hatchlings of probably 8-10...
