She seems to keep up with everyone else, but the sad bit is she can't get on the roost when everyone else can. How can I help her? It stresses her out and in turn stresses me out (I am also 33 weeks pregnant, so it doesn't take much to make me cry!).
Thanks!!
Hi there,
One of our silkie chicks (born the end of March) has never had a normal gait/balance - s/he can walk with the rest of the chicks, but the walk itself is very wobbly. Our dog who is chicken friendly is always trying to help her and tries to clean her underside, she seeks her out. It...
This is still a new lifestyle for us, but one thing has been such a joy: Watching our girls develop personalities, attitudes and finding their place in the pecking order.
No one is laying right now and I don't even care. Working in the garden and having the company of them and our dog...
That's great - thanks! The gentleman we purchased from said she *might* be a Cochin mix so I'm excited to watch her mature.
I LOVE her white beak and black feet. I hope they stay that color!!
Any ideas out there as to what this little white girl might look like when she is older or what she is? Next to her is a blue Silkie/Frizzle, I believe. Hopefully a lady... We have had chickens for a couple months now, so I am still learning what to expect.
Now if she and her little buddy...
Ugh. Anyone?
I tried giving her a bath in case she was bound. She opens her eyes a bit and looks around and then closes them again. She is really listless.
Officially, no. Unofficially none of their poos have reflected worms (if that is what I should be looking for). That said, there were a couple loose stools today. She is sitting on my lap now, clearly out of it.
She last laid morning before last and that is when her mood first changed...
Our silkie when from maybe broody to super lethargic and her head is drooping. When before she was still moving around and such we thought it might be broodiness, this isn't that. She laid regularly for a week or so. She last laid two mornings ago and then her demeanor changed.
What do we do?!
Figure out what size you can have. Factor in a door if you want one - that was easier that I expected it to be.
Keep it simple unless you're a wizard of carpentry.
Thank you! Am I assuming correctly that the definition of broody isn't necessarily black and white? She does seem a little bigger...
And to break her of this I bring her outside with the rest of our little flock? She is super easy to pickup now.
Thanks! This is nerve wracking.
Day three: She isn't in the nesting box, but she's camping outside of it. She is moving around slowly when I push her to do so.
Broody? Sheesh... I'm such an amateur!
Thanks! When I say the coop, I mean the coop and not the nesting box. She has laid six of the last eight days, so I think the break is normal. This started yesterday after she laid her most recent egg.
Since her laying has been so frequent I would imagine that being egg bound isn't a...
