Good Morning,
I'm a little late to the party on this reply so my apologies if your chicken situation has changed.
I just lost my 4-1/2 year old Buff Orpington, Lucy, and am left with a lone 2-1/2 year old ISA hen, Henny. She can't live out her golden years alone however I do not want to...
I hope everyone had a great holiday. It's hard to believe Christmas is right around the corner.
My name is Cyndi and I haven't posted on the IL site before however since I split my time between IL and WI, I thought I would post on both sites.
I just lost my 4-1/2 year old Buff Orpington...
Maybe I will see if someone has a hen around her age that they would be willing to part with. My job changed and now I work during the week in Chicago and only get home to Milwaukee on the weekends and even then I sometimes am gone for two weeks straight so I know she won't get much...
I just lost my 4-1/2 year old Buff Orpington and am down to a single hen. She is a 2-1/2 year old RIR. Due to a chaotic work schedule, I really do not want to add more chickens. Can my single hen live alone? Is there anything I can do to keep her happy without the companionship of another hen?
I really appreciate your response. I never thought about a sprain. How long does a sprain take to heal? Should I leave her confined 24/7 or do you let her out for a little bit of time? It's hard since I live in WI and work in IL during the week.
Hello. My chicken, Lucy, is a 4-1/2 year old Buff Orphington. She is a larger girl and has been fairly healthy. Last Monday, I noticed her left leg where her toes begin was larger than her right foot. The foot was not discolored. I assumed she had Bumblefoot since there is a possibility she...
Thank you so much for the post. It is very helpful. Since I am fairly new to raising chickens, I do not know what type of antibiotic to give. I saw Baytril on another posting. Would this be the best antibiotic to give?
Thanks again!
To yellowherb and ChicKat,
I am new to raising chickens and enjoy reading the posts. However my entire day has been ruined by your inappropriate comments regarding killing family pets. Please stay on topic about commingling of dogs and chickens and save your dog killing antics for other websites.
Thank you for the information. I must admit I am thrilled they both are pullets. I promised my husband I would only keep two chickens so I really lucked out in terms of fresh eggs. :)
Hi everyone. I posted approximately one month ago for opinions on sex and breed however these two were too young. I'm wondering if they are old enough now. Unfortunately the store where I purchased them did not have any information on age, breed or sex. I've had them since April 13th and...
I may be interested. We are in Homer Glen. Are they still available? And no stew pot for any of my chickens. Retirement home/sanctuary- yes. Stew pot-no. :)
Hi All!
I'm new to the site and new to caring for chickens. These two were separated from the others at a local store due to being picked on by the others. The store thought they were New Hampshire Reds but weren't certain. They had no idea the age or sex. In hindsight, I should not have...
