I second the Myshire suggestion. Zach has a website, ebay account, and youtube channel with weekly livestreams where he answers anyone's questions. He is also more than happy to discuss quail and answer questions via text or phone call. He has a wide selection but this is his busy season so...
I know that this is an older thread, but what do you mean by charcoal? I'm assuming it's grau-fee which I was under the impression is two different genes at two different loci, fee + extended black (Tibetan). But you are describing it as the charcoal gene, implying that you are talking about a...
I second this. I use a water bottle and a blue reusable ice pack in my incubator. I also have two digital thermometers, a glass thermometer, and a meat thermometer that I calibrated with ice water. One of the digital thermometers is consistently 2 degrees lower than the rest but the others...
By distance I'm assuming you mean you have it in it's own brooder alone? Its calling because it is alone and trying to alert the others that it is lost. Give it a feather duster or a stuffed animal to cuddle against, make sure that it is warm enough and has food and water.
Im not an expert, but from what I understand:
Pearl is falb-fee and italian.
Falb-fee (aka ghost) is a dominant gene.
Italian (aka gold) is an incomplete dominant (het is italian, homozygous is manchurian).
Going with that, you should expect
Pharoah - inherited neither dominant gene
falb-fee...
Have you checked craigslist or asked employees at the local feed stores if they know of anyone with quail in the area? Tractor supply might not give any leads, but a mom and pop type store probably could put you in contact with someone local if you leave them your phone number.
If you dont find...
The first one looks like it has the extended black gene? I agree that the second is a panda or spotted white with the color being italian. The third is a tuxedo, my guess would be a scarlet.
I'm still very new to this, but this link has helped me...
Have you watched myshire farm's youtube videos?
Their breeding and genetics Q&A videos also cover colors and their genetics. In fact, most of their Q&A videos have genetic and color questions as well.
Technically you already have celadon, as that is just a blue egg trait. You could breed for less spots on the eggs like everyone else. I'm hoping to get more eggs like yours when mine are old enough.
Also, myshire is working with celadons but hasn't released them yet because he cant get them...
I love those eggs, I've been hoping that other people would have them and start sharing anecdotes about how true they breed. Do you happen to know the line of your quail? I ordered Alchemist line celadon quail eggs from Rising Phoenix Farm in South Carolina because I wanted celadons that breed...
