i've had my bantam for one year and she was/is a great layer..then i got her two more hens for friends and built her/them a snazzy new coop. the new hens are now 8 months and the black and white one lays an egg everyday like clockwork, the bantam stopped...

i love my banty (except for her "crowing")...anyway....her eggs are tiny, but YUMMY! yes, i use them for everything...sometimes two for the size of one egg....we had a batch of scramblers yesterday and i used five and fed the three of us...never boil them, though....too small
the "crowing" is a bit different, you can tell the difference for sure, but just as loud...the first time i heard her do it, i thought, oh man, our next door neighbor bought a roo, so i went outside and as i was walking towards the sound, i kept getting closer to MY hen house...then i saw TaTa...
don't worry sunnydee - apparently, it does not happen often and my little bantam is a bit rambuncious (sp)....she has done this once before, but stopped after a few days, this seems to be lasting much longer...sigh....

yes, can you believe it...i posted a few weeks back and apparently they crow when there is no roo and want to let everyone else know she is the boss...unbelievable...this is exactly what i was trying to avoid...so i did not get a roo...

hi - yes, most definitely a hen...get eggs daily...i live on two acres, but her crow is LOUD and last for about 5 minutes...and at 5:30am, that's an eternity...the shed is a bit soundproof, but closer to the house, so that's not gunna work...you have me thinking though, the only rooster...
hi all - i posted a few weeks back about my little bantam hen that won't stop crowing at 5:30am...i've tried separating her at night and letting her sleep in the shed - didn't work...i've tried giving them even more free range time, still doesn't work...my neighbors are ready to kill me (they've...
This entire topic has transformed me! Though i do not eat my chickens, i DO eat chicken, but from now on, I will only buy from local farms (i did a ton of research for my area - california) and found a few really great farms, that will ship. I feel really good about this and thank you for...
WOW. Thanks for the info...it looks like there are alot of us who do and alot of us who don't...i'm leaning for the don't after reading some of your posts! i do love being informed and i appreciate your compassion towards these lovely little beings...i can also appreciate and understand...
i'm beginning to get a bit squeemish about eating chicken.. i DO NOT eat MY chickens, but i DO eat the kind that is magically wrapped in the grocery store...but now, i'm feeling a bit weird...i mean, i see my girls everyday and talk to them and hold them and pet them...they each have a different...
