Your avatar seems fine. As long as no one complains about it, and I wouldn't go talking about it for this reason, it is fine the way it is. If someone wants to talk about it, do it in a PM.
As for your bird that might be deaf, he could have received a poke to the ear or even had an infection in it. Is it in both ears to you think?
