  • I’ve got one hen that will only hang out with the ducks . I lock them up all together every night and instead of getting up on the perches with the others she lays down all snuggled up with the ducks every night . When they are swimming in their pool she stands next to it and watches ( and drinks their poop water ) until they get out and off they go !
Hey just wanted to pass on info I learned from owning ducks and chickens
It's not safe to have a Drake with chickens due to mating
There anatomys are different and chickens won't live through it. I try to let anyone who has ducks and chickens know this because it's serious

Hey. We don't plan on keeping them together. Just had to get another heat lamp bulb. It's coming home with my hunny today. I didn't even know ducks and chickens would try to mate. That's good to know. But they will have separate runs.... Already under construction for the duck run. We even keep our chicken breeds in separate runs. They are like a little community of chicken families.

My brother in law had a male Peking and female Peking and sadly lost a chicken due to the male trying to mate . I’ve read it’s more common for them to try and cross mate if they’ve been raised together from hatchlings . Thankfully we have two female Peking’s who from my observations are lesbians

Haha. Lesbo duckies! That's cute. Mine were only together in the brooder for about a day and a half. But now I have a hen that goes and lays her egg with the duck eggs then leaves and goes about her business. I almost thought she would go broody in there!
