Rhode Island Red Bantams are very small, sweet, flighty, tame birds. They love to sit on shoulders and eat treats from your hands! They don't need a super big run, but work better with other bantams. I reccomend these birds for a good little pet!

The sweetest breed ever!
Pros: Sweet, friendly, calm, curious and adventurous, adorable voice, great egg layer.

I have only purchased one Rhode Island Red Bantam and they would probably be my top favorite breed that I have ever owned. In the Spring of 2023, I bought four bantams from Tractor Supply: an Old English Game Bantam mix, a Golden Sebright, a Silver Sebright and a Rhode Island Red Bantam. I named the fourth one Ruby, and she quickly became my favorite flock member of all time. She is the sweetest and friendliest chicken with the cutest appearance, and she also has an adorable voice－she does not make normal clucking noises, and instead makes squeaks and cries. Egg production is not an important factor for me, but Ruby seems to produce an egg almost every day, whether there is a thunderstorm or a predator that showed up during the night. Ruby is currently being trained to ride in the car, and she enjoys it very much. When she gets her harness and diaper in, she will be riding places with me.

I found this info about the RIR bantams on the dite of the Dutch RIR club:
The bantam form originated in England in the 1920s. The laying power of the bantams is even better than their big brothers and sisters. With proper care, she will continue to lay throughout the winter.

Here too there is a variety in comb shape.
Unlike the large Red, the bantams can be kept just about anywhere as they require relatively little space.

The eggs were hatched by a broody and the youngsters didn’t turn out to be tame at all. I have 2 pullets and one cockerel 3 months old now. They do great in my flock and love to free range.

Another update. The cockerel turned out into a very friendly boy. But I couldn’t keep him bc the neighbours complained about the crowing in the morning. Luckily I could rehome him.

The 2 pullets started to lay after winter (February). And they make a strange deep noise. Quit a different sound then the shrieking (birdlike) sounds of my other chickens.
They are great bantam layers now. About 5 eggs a week.

My RIR bantams are more friendly than my EEer bantams. The reds come out of the pen in the morning and follow me around. I handled the EEers more as babies than the reds and yet as nearly grown birds the EEers are very stand offish compared to the RIRs. The reds should start laying within the next couple weeks.

I have to disagree completely. It is not in their nature to be mean, they are lovely birds and are very kind and gentle.

In January I received a shipment of Goslings and Ducklings from Ideal Poultry. They included 5 free chicks for warmth. I Identified the chicks as Rhode Island Reds. Here it is 6 weeks later and they are fully feathered and only about the size of a youth football. My wife and I Were wondering why? We never heard of RIR Bantams. Well, BackYardChickens comes to the rescue again, here they are.
Y'all are right about these birds. They are so tame. We can pick them up and they will roost of out shoulders. The only other chickens we have that are like that are our Silkies and our Isa Browns.
These would be wonderful birds to introduce children to chicken keeping.
