Man, I waited forever for this girl to start laying. A full year! And she's not the best layer. Her eggs are moderate in size, and in peak season she'll give about five per week. But I have to say, she is one of my favorite hens of all time. She has an easy-going temperament, and never makes trouble in the yard. Her size means she's not a pushover, though. All of the other chickens I have kept have had their issues - chicken drama, mites, sour crop, egg problems, excessive molting, whatever. When everyone else is in flux, my Jersey is just motoring on, keeping an even keel and a steady production of eggs. Having some nasty hens has really made me appreciate how easy she is to have around. I had a Jersey rooster for a bit, but that guy was a jerk and went in the pot.
