Cons: my dog has still found a way to get the eggs out!
I really love this box, it's just what we needed be be able to attach it to the back porch. We have three roaming leghorns that insisted on laying by the dogs' lixit and it became a competition to see who could get the eggs (or for us to remember when it was laying time!). We were about to order that plastic-bucket-to-a-nesting-box-thing when we came across this. It was just what we really wanted and installed so easy. The girls took right to it and now the eggs no longer are being laid on muddy ground. The only problem is our egg thief has discovered his big head still fits in the opening and snatches the eggs if we don't get them first. But most importantly the girls love it and are comfortable in it! And if I'd just quit being lazy and reposition it higher I probably wouldn't have a problem with the dog getting the eggs .
I knew I wasn't going to build nest boxes, and I don't like the cheapy plywood box TSC sells for $10.
I wish the landing bar were further away from the box. I had to put them down low so the girls could jump in. They tried flying up, but couldn't maneuver it. I am also not sure about going broody in the box. Of course, I would give a hen a Queen sized bed if I thought she would prefer it.
I like the box, its easy to clean,. I installed with hex head screws with a flared washer attached. Just pull up and out to remove and clean. The top is sloped so no birds will roost on top of it.
Pros: simple to use, the girls love them, well made with thick plastic, good price for what you get
Cons: none
it is well made with thick plastic. the girls love them and i love them too. its easy to take off the wall and clean. it is well worth the price. it holds the shavings in fairly well. it has a drain at the back so any liquid that gets in it for any reason will drain. me and my girls love these nest boxes!
