Is anyone planning on going to the Schagticoke swap?
I am looking for wheaten ameracauna and polish chicks or started pullets. Perhaps some guinea fowl too.
Just wondering what else might be there.
Is anyone planning on going to the Canaan NY swap in a few weeks?

We bought fertilized eggs to go under our broody hen (no rooster). How long do we wait for them to incubate before giving up? It's now 22 days since we set them under her.
We use it religiously. When we do coop clean out, I sprinkle it in the corners ... where mites are likely to hide, and I also sprinkle it on top of the new shavings. We keep a sandbox for the girls and we've put quite a bit in there for dusting also. I have added it to food on occasion but so...
We use cat strength Frontline when we see mites on our hens. Just put 3 drops on the skin on the back of their neck. I found info on it by doing a Google search. the chemical is stored in the hen's body fat so eggs are safe to eat but don't use it on any meat birds.
Thank you so much for your input!
So the chicks can be raised by their surrogate mother with the flock?
We feed layer pellets to the existing hens. If I put a container of chick starter in the coop will the chicks eat that rather than the pellets? Or should the whole flock be converted back...
We have a wyandotte hen that has gone broody but no rooster. Every afternoon when we gather eggs, she's sitting on 6 or so of assorted colors. We remove them and she spends the remainder of the day pouting in the nest box. She must leave at some point because the next day she'll be in the same...
Did you have them locked in there for a few days before giving them liberty? I always have a goal of leaving them "cooped up" for a week when I new chicks outside. After 3-4 days I seem to get impatient about seeing them in the baby run so I let them out. I have found that if I can contain...
That all depends on how many you ordered and where you live. If you order less than 15 they go express mail so they should be there tomorrow. If you ordered 15 or more then add a day or two.
We had a delivery that hatched last Monday and arrived in NY on Wednesday. 15 happy and LOUD little...
I am so envious!
Our chicks aren't expected for a month. We keep our brooder in the garage and it's still a tad cold here ... I awakened to outside temp of -6F just a week ago!
I'll be looking forward to photos of your new babies. :-)
I would check with your state dept of agriculture and markets first. They could help you with the in-state laws and may also have info on "exporting" eggs/chicks to other states.
Call Animal Control.
They should remove it at no cost to you.
Skunks are rabies vectors. They can carry the disease without outward symptoms/behaviors that other animals exhibit.
Consequently, skunks are a high public health risk.
Let your tax dollars pay for its removal.
We have an existing flock of hens in a large yard, practically free range, behind our house. They've been great for bug control out there.
We have ordered additional pullet chicks for spring. I would love to have them in a separate location to do bug control near our front deck. They would...
You may not NEED to spray once your chickens start eating the bugs!
We live on the edge of a swamp and have ALWAYS had major bug issues. Black flies in June give way to huge Skeeters in July through October. We have a beautiful deck in the front of the house that generally has a 3-5 minute time...
We did three (yep, 3) separate orders from MPC last year. We were so thrilled with the first order of 8 that we ordered another 8 ... and another 10. :-) We are in upstate NY.
We did have one that didn't survive but MPC handled it well. Not only did they quickly credit for the chick, they were...
Meyer Hatchery also has a small minimum order. You could compare prices.
I suspect that the high shipping is due to additional expense in special handling while in transit.
We ordered from MyPetChicken a few times last year ... chicken math ... we wanted 6 then 5 more then 8 more. With all...
Both www.MyPetChicken.com and www.MeyerHatchery.com allow for smaller orders. You might want to wait until it gets a bit warmer to order that few though.
