Yeah it snows here...I'm gonna have to do something about it. Last year it got way down in the negatives (but I didn't have any chickens then.) And I imagine it'll be worse this year.
It looks like we are headed for a chicken-killer winter, and I don't have faith out hen house will keep everyone warm enough. Its just an open face goat shed with 2 chain link dog kennels attached out front with chicken wire wrapping it. Id like to beef it up so everyone can snuggle together and...
She was gorgious! I'm sorry the other day I let out chickens out to roam and 20 minutes later I looked outside to a mass feather explosion...seems our boxer got ahold of one in her kennel and bye-bye birdie...it was pretty depressing.
We have 45 hens and all of them were 4 or 5 months old when we bought them...that was almost 5 months ago...so far we get a steady 2 whole eggs a day! Sometimes 3...my husband is getting very irritated. So either we arnt doing something right or someone lied to us when we bought them. erg.
Right now we have 45 chickens, 8 or 9 differant breeds, and its an amazing looking flock. But once my black tailed japs are old enough to breed they are going to get to be their own flock seperate from the others. I think that will be really pretty.
My chickens loooooove spaghetti, they gooble it up like there's no tomorrow. Also once they ate a copperhead snake :O I'm pretty sure chickens are related to pigs...
...chase them down. He just thought it was funny to scatter them. Now he hangs around with them, he comes in the pen with me to look for eggs, and he *ahem* helps clean up the poop. Dachshunds are also good at killing off pests like rodents and big bugs and are very good snake killers. And he's...
Does anyone know how to make canned candied apples? Seems like I had them when I was little...but I don't remember for sure what exactly it was, but I think that's what they were called.
My favorite kitchen knife is named Louis. Then again...just about anything I come across I name louis. I had a bike named Hecktor. I think I originally got it from my mom, she called all her vans Bessy. And my sisters name everything Steve, or Roulf.
No they are not laying yet, not since we've had them anyway.
We've had them for a little over 2 weeks. The man we bought them from said they were from his spring bunch (also we've looked them up and ours don't seem to be as fully developed as the adults we saw.)
I don't 'think' they are sick...
Yeah they have their own run that they play in all day. They pick on each other and play and eat just fine. They act pretty normal...normal poops and all that good stuff...just pretty pink lol
It could be a coon reached through and grabbed her...but all the other evidence doesn't add up. Ill look at her better tomorrow when I can actually see. The seizure type thing was the part that kinda got me. Really odd.
My husband and I are pretty new at the whole raising chickens thing so we don't know a lot of stuff about how they act yet. We just got home and our silver laced polish was layin on the ground having a kind of fit? Wiggling its head back and forth. At first I thought maybe its neck was broke but...
The other day I found something weird in the hen house. 2 yolks (one bigger than the other) laying practicaly on top of each other, there was no shell or broken pieces anywhere around...but there was a tissue like substance with it. It felt like wet toilet paper. The yolks were intact and looked...
