Collect the eggs. Even if one of the hens goes broody you don't want her sitting on that many eggs. She won't be able to properly regulate the temperature and the eggs won't develop correctly. You'll get mostly rotten eggs. I'd say 10 max for a first time broody.
Leaving eggs in the nest does...
Whatever dog you pick it's going to take a lot of work. Even the most well breed dog is going to need training and time. I don't think I'd ever leave a dog along with young kids. If they were young teens and you were 100% comfortable that everyone was safe together, maybe. Not because I think...
I could keep going with how wrong I think you are in this regard but it would be pointless. I'll base my opinions on my experiences and lots of science and you can do your own thing. I really don't want to derail this thread. It's not about breeding, its' about sharing bully dogs. So I'm going...
My dog and his littermates were dumped on the side of the road in a cardboard box when they were 5 or 6 weeks old. Thankfully they were found, rescued, and eventually fostered until they were at least 8 weeks. Mine was probably over 3 months old by the time I adopted him. And while he did spend...
If you have FB, check out the groups Falcon Farm N Critter Swap and Pueblo West Farmers Swap. They are groups centered around a couple of feed store swaps, but you can also create "in search of" posts. You might have to wait a bit because call ducks have probably only started laying recently or...
You'll want to look for a dwarf variety if you want to try growing it indoors. Keep in mind even the dwarf ones can grow 15 ft. You can order started plants online. I got mine from Fast Growing Trees. Mine is in my greenhouse.
I named one of my goats Delilah. I sing snippets of "Hey there Deliliah" to her all the time. I kept one of her daughters this past spring and named her Jolene. Guess what I sing for her.
I am currently attempting to teach Luc the "Orbit" trick. He starts on my right side and walks backwards around me and ends up back at my side. It's been slow but we've successfully made one full orbit without stopping but I have to spin with him and lure the whole time. It's going to take a lot...
I'd define basic obedience as the first level commands. Some I think are necessary, like a good recall, and some are building blocks. I do rally obedience with Luc. It's not for competition, just a fun class. He absolutely loves it. He's excited and engaged through the whole class. He loves...
Luc doesn't like the cold, so he has jackets. We walk almost every day unless it's really nasty out. I refuse to walk when it's below 30 unless there is no wind and it's sunny. Then it's not so bad. If we don't walk we'll work on training or play a game of find it. I hide treats all over the...
Coats are a must here. Luc gets cold. I've found the cheap coats don't last more than a season. He has several coats but his "everyday" barn and walking coat is thick and kind of puffy. This is his second winter wearing it and it still looks good. His first one had rips and the stitching was...
My boy came with the name Captain from the rescue.
I wanted him to have a connection to my previous dogs, Cody and Leyna, so I tried to find names with "L" and "C" in them. And that's how Luc got his name. It fits him perfectly too.
It's fun to read what other folks teach their dogs. My previous dogs knew the basics but we never did formal training and they didn't listen well. 😆 My current boy, Luc, and I do a class at the training place almost weekly. He's a pittie mix and I knew people would judge him for that so I wanted...
Luc doesn't get it 100% of the time. My previous dogs picked it up too. Wasn't really something I taught them, they just sort of worked it out. I stop so they can't really keep going forward, they have to go back. I think the trick it to get them before they completely make it past the object...
