My late Australian Shepherd was Eliza and I renamed her Delilah after the song by the Plain White T"s "Hey There Delilah".

My Catahoula Leopard dog was originally Hunter and I renamed her Persephone.

Cat was originally named Heidi but we changed it to Biscuit.

Cat was originally Katrina but renamed Seraphina.

Our other 2 kitties were Taxi and Phoebe. Did not rename.

I named one of my goats Delilah. I sing snippets of "Hey there Deliliah" to her all the time. I kept one of her daughters this past spring and named her Jolene. Guess what I sing for her.

I had a silkie terrier that came with the name Lily but that didn’t fit at all. I renamed her Midge, which was perf ct for her.

On the flip side, I had the name Abby Notmal picked out for my current dog long before she was even conceived. Good thing it fits!

Like the (very long) title says, I’m curious to know if anyone has a pet that originally was going to be called something different from their current name. Maybe they came with a name and you hated it or maybe you just couldn’t decide on a name and it took a bit to choose, etc. I’m curious about this. So post yours! This is open to all animals, not just dogs or cats. Please post their current name as well as the name you were going to name them. Thank you!!!!

I’ll start.

My dog, Brewster, came with his name and it ended up growing on me so I kept it. BUT!!!! I thought about naming him Finnegan (Finn for short) or something like that. I can’t imagine calling him that now

My Male Palomino Rabbit was named Carrot Cake (he passed last year, and we got him last year)

But he was mistaken for female, and we named him Mounds for a bit


For Dogs

I have a 3 year old Female GS mix, named Harley. But I had 1 weird name idea (my family said, No right away): Drip. But later on, I was like. Why didn't we name her: Cucumber

I have a 4 month old (around 4 months) Female Great Pyrenees Puppy. Her name is Dakota, but we couldn't decide what to name her. So, some of our top names were: Junie, Lena and Lobo (Lobo, The Dog from Heartland). I wanted to name her either: Angel or Sky. Though, cause the day we got her. We were driving home, and they're was a beautiful sunset
