Falling Down Heights, my daily life

I have a rampaging raccoon on my hands... Well, wish it was in my hands so I could strangle it!!! Since Friday, I have lost 5 brahma and 3 call ducks. And I thought they were secure. Adding more security stuff now. More bolts and latches and hardware cloth.

...that dewlap was just getting too big and so I checked again late last week, and sure enough that wasn't male equipment! So, I did the only thing I *could* do and promptly got her bred! :lau The remaining orphaned kits are still alive! They are over six weeks old now, so chances are that...

Sad news... Lost one of my favourite does and two of her kits to the heat. Six kits survived (managed to cool them off enough), and they are 5 weeks old today so hopefully they will do okay without their mom.

Falling Down Heights, my daily life

It's been restored now. That storm was wild. Sheet lightning like strobe lights constantly and heavy downpours for well over an hour. Windy enough to have blown off the roof from one of my new rabbit cages. Poor bunnies got an unwanted shower. No other damage that I could see though. All...

Of COURSE we had a massive storm (the likes of which I have never seen!) and the power goes out! It's not fair!!! No idea when power will be restored either.

I didn't want to say anything until it was actually done, but... POWER HAS BEEN RESTORED!!! The owner/landlord had it put in their name. It's wonderful to be on the computer without the loud drone of the generator in the background! Actually, it's weird. I will be devouring the internet...

Oh, forgot about that. One saving grace in my situation is an old-fashioned hand pump. It's a pain filling the buckets to water the animals, but better than having to purchase those big bottles.

Got $15,000? That's what it's going to take. I have NO idea how my daughter used so much electricity!

Things to do when you have no electricity: Pick wild strawberries. Build rabbit cages. Read a lot. Try not to go crazy.

In a foul mood today. No, TwoCrows, not *fowl*. Not having any power is getting to me. Found a home for my trio of cochin banties. Friend who is watching my chicks will take them. Probably getting out of the quail. Their protein needs are too high, especially since the feed supplier...
