    2 drakes...

Your drake will not accept a new drake when you have so few hens. You have to separate the drakes 1. Rehome one 2. Keep the new pair separate from your existing ducks (separate run and sleeping arrangements) 3. Have separate drake and female flocks-- separate runs and sleeping arrangements...

Crest Gene in ducks not Homozygous Lethal?

Thank you. I was just offered this thread under a thread that I responded to about crested duck genetics. There is still misinformation above but, because of your efforts, no unpleasantness.

Line-breeding Warning! Hatching runner eggs from siblings led to in-shell deaths, deformities, and crested ducklings.

@OneEggToRuleThemAll so sad that this has happened to you. The first part of the genetics of creating crested ducklings is straight forward. There is 1 genetic error that causes the midline skull deformity and associated crest. A crested duck has that error on a chromosome (not a sex...

Duck was fine and all of a sudden collapsed and can’t walk. Please help.

Thanks for the update I am so very glad she is OK now. I would keep calcium gluconate in your ducky first aid kit in case she has a problem laying or getting egg bound again.

When is it safe to let drakes out of drake jail ?

The younger the drakes the more energetic they are. But I doubt yours are going to go back to their pre season level of activity. Be prepared to have to fence of a separate area for your drakes and just let one at a time out with the girls, on rotation

    Duckling walking on hocks

I had 2 rescued ducklings this spring that had severe niacin deficiency with leg and gait issues when I got them at 2-2.5 weeks old. I put them straight onto added brewer's yeast in their feed but they collapsed the next day and needed Durvet high level vit B compound for several weeks. They...

    Supplement okay for ducks?

There is very little made specifically for ducks. Im in the US and when I have a sick duckling that urgently needs more niacin, I use a preparation manufactured for cows and sheep. (Durvet high level vit B compound is an injectable preparation used for cows/sheep that duck keepers here give...

When is it safe to let drakes out of drake jail ?

How many drakes and how many ladies? If you have 3 drakes and 4 ladies, its not going to be safe to let the drakes out as they will over mount the ladies

    Aggressive drake

You can integrate ducklings with female adult ducks at 8 weeks old. You can also integrate male ducklings with drakes at 8 weeks old: i have an all drake flock and introduced 2 new rescued drakes at 8 weeks. But I would never integrate ducklings into an adult flock that included a drake before...

HELP! Dog Attacked My young orphaned Duck, Mr. Quackers!

Is there a puncture or any open wound? This is very important to know because with the possibility of a broken bone, it would be considered an open fracture. Last year, I successfully treated 3 ducks with dog bites but no broken bones. They needed the wound cleaning but I didn't need to use...

HELP is there something wrong with my newly hatched ducklings foot?

The waterproof tape is fine. It cones of skin easily but very firmly attaches to itself. I used vet wrap on top of the tape as i had to position the ankles. Your duck's ankles are fine. Your duckling would not be able to walk with the weight of vet wrap. Splinting my older duckling's feet was...

Bottom duck bill split (looks like it never fully grew together)

Wow. This happened out of the blue? Is your duck able to eat at the moment? Glad you have a vet nearby! Let us know what the vet thinks Meanwhile, I would add Rooster Booster Poultry Cell to the duck's water. And if the duck isn't eating well, consuder substituting oral rehydration solution...

Welcome to BYC. What is the back story? That doesnt look l Iike a little fluffie with a congenital abnormality. How has that duck been eating until now? What has prompted the thought that the bill might be repairable at this stage? Is there a history of trauma? The middle of a duck's lower...
