I made an insert to reuse my filament boxes as egg cartons.

Wow! never would have thought to try this. You better not be "pulling my leg", har har har.

They do, except that they don't fit in my car. I was hoping to find something like this, that could be adapted to fit a turkey (?)

Does anyone know of a pet carrier that would be suitable for carrying an adult turkey? Eg, if I need to take one to the vet. (Now that I think about it, how on earth do people transport peacocks?)

Your Experience Keeping a House Chicken

@GodLovesU Never tried it, but the diapers I've seen have enough capacity that you don't have to change it every time. They're similar to the manure bags that horses wear. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/chicken-diapers-instructions-how-to-advice.97738/page-2

I guess I should ask: What's the signal to molt? do i need to let them raise an actual brood?

If I let them go broody for a week, then remove the nest, will they quit laying and molt? I don't want them to start a new nest :th

What time of year do turkeys molt? After that, do they stop laying for the year? My hens look a mess, I hope they get a break soon. My latitude is about 38 degrees if that helps.

    Turkeys

I'm not sure what "surrender" means. My turkeys will "pretend-mate" each other even as poults. So yes the turkeys might mount each other even if too young. If the females are much smaller than the males, they could get injured.

    Turkeys moving outside

ah haha, I had this same problem. When my poults screamed in the brooder, I would pop my head in the room and say "hi, i'm here!" then they would be quiet for some time. When I moved them out to the coop, I set up a security camera so that if they screamed, I could talk to them through the...

Your Experience Keeping a House Chicken

I don't have a house chicken, but I do have a temporary house turkey. I learned a few tricks to manage poop from a "disabled chickens" group. I feed the turkey 3 times per day, and can reliably predict when she will poop because she eats the same food, and same amount, at each feeding. She poops...

Are bantam breeds better suited for indoor setups?

If someone doesn't welcome it, they're not gonna listen anyway. IMO "feedback" is better received when it comes from other people who have chosen that type of life, because they have spent time thinking about constructive solutions. Unfortunately it becomes an echo chamber in those groups, but...

Are bantam breeds better suited for indoor setups?

The FB groups that I (briefly) joined are also worried about the welfare of chickens, extremely so. Like they rearrange their homes and lives to accommodate a chicken 24/7, schedule playdates and such. I had serious concerns about the mental health of some of these people, and had to leave lest...

Are bantam breeds better suited for indoor setups?

No, I know what you're saying. There have been threads started by people who already have house chickens, but those descend into chaos as well. This is not a great example, but it's the best I could find after a quick search...

Are bantam breeds better suited for indoor setups?

As you pointed out, any thread about indoor chickens inevitably descends into chaos, and gets deleted. I assume the reason Meat Birds got its own entire forum was to discourage naysayers from inserting their opinions on animal welfare.

Are bantam breeds better suited for indoor setups?

You mean a separate forum? People have been lobbying to have a forum created for disabled chickens, with no success. That would have been the closest thing to a safe-space for indoor chickens. I don't think the moderators want to add more forums. Besides, this website is called backyardchickens.

enrichment/enclosure for indoor setup (plants, toys, etc)

I have a boring desk job, but I would much rather be a self-sufficient farmer. BUT I'm not physically fit for that kind of life, and would never make enough to survive, so the best I can do is have some backyardchickens and LARP as a farmer in my free time. Similarly, I believe most chicken...
