her beautiful tail has fallen victim to the awful nest she’s in.

The nest is gross, but she likes them this way. Always clears away the bedding from under her breast.

all 6 eggs are developing despite being refrigerated! Hatch day is somewhere around July 20th-21st.

What time of year do turkeys molt? After that, do they stop laying for the year? My hens look a mess, I hope they get a break soon. My latitude is about 38 degrees if that helps.

The longer they keep laying, the later it is when they molt.

Mine have quit laying and gone broody by end of June. Although I have had some dump the kids with relatives and start a new nest. Usually the August hatches are lost to predators though.

If I let them go broody for a week, then remove the nest, will they quit laying and molt? I don't want them to start a new nest

I have had them sit on nothing. Nest has to be totally destroyed, but they will think there's time to start a new nest now...in a more hidden spot.

I guess I should ask: What's the signal to molt? do i need to let them raise an actual brood?
