Mine adore watermelon! Their coops and runs are all under shady trees. They spend most of their days loose in their portion of the yard where they dig down into the dirt and flop over, appearing to be dead but actually cooling themselves off a bit.
Two of my hens -- and only two -- enjoy...
Jim, your computer seems to have some attitude issues; it too often refuses to play nicely with you.
I spend most of winter looking forward to the summer months. But the weather has been So Hot, So Humid, So Rainy that I actually watch commercials where trucks with 4-wheel drive are plowing...
Your "short coop can be inconvenient" photo could easily be me, decked out in Muck boots and lying on my stomach to stretch into the furthest reaches of a couple of my coops!!
Your flock sounds lovely, and your post taught me something!
When I was a kid, we had mallards. All had "normal" coloring, except Erica. Now, I know she was leucistic!! We just thought she was an "odd duck."
Welcome to BYC, and best wishes to you, your current flock and the ducks you plan to...
I LOVE the lesson in art history!! Thankfully, I will be done dosing Ozzie today.
And, I am in total agreement about being a servant to my dogs -- and the rest of the menagerie. I often think how nice it would be to simply go somewhere -- anywhere -- for more than several hours without having...
So sorry about the possible Marek's. I was all set to give you a happy emoji until I spotted that. I hope you get great advice and support, Jessica.
Aside from the potential Marek's, it sounds like you have a lovely menagerie, and I can't imagine why your peacocks didn't appreciate you! Charlie...
Sweet babies, whatever they are!
My solution for naming ducklings is to give everyone "neutral" names so I don't have to remember their re-named names as they grow up. Some of my ducks are or have been Skylar, Hayden, Quinn, Sloan, Layne, Drew and Blair.
Don't hesitate to ask Anything about...
Lisa, I love that you and your dogs will all be together again.
Your pond is lovely and I'm jealous :)
The previous owners of my sister's house kept fish year-round in a huge in-floor "pond" in the basement, one of several questionable building decisions. It's decked out with fake grass on...
I am so sorry about your beloved dog, Lisa, and I completely understand that while it's heartbreaking to say goodbye (and, it never gets easier, no matter how many times you have to do it), life without dogs is unimaginable for me, too.
I have no doubt that you gave her a great life and...
Has the raccoon been back to visit? I know they prey on chickens, but I like raccoons. They are so smart, too smart for their own good, I think, like when they figure out how to open coop doors.
How's the Muddy Run? My chickens have been in lockdown a bit lately because of the almost-daily...
I didn't need to look at the U.S. Drought Monitor to know that my part of the state is no longer in a drought. Rain is becoming a part of almost every day. It's 72 degrees with humidity at 90 percent.
I need to mow, but it's too wet to run the mower. Last night, I realized that something I saw...
57 degrees today! I need to get as much outdoor work done as possible because there's plenty more rain predicted, starting about midnight.
Yesterday brought a "significant" garden harvest -- two Anaheim peppers and my first yellow squash, all between 6 and 8 inches long, along with four white...
Fingers crossed that Pepe Le Pew doesn't end up in your woodchuck trap. Speaking of cartoons ...
Elmer Fudd's song "Kill the Wabbit" ran through my head last night when I discovered that the cute little bunny who slips through the fence around my main daylily bed had attacked my newest plant...
No need to feel awkward. Believe me, there's been PLENTY of time and discussion devoted to the fatality and fire. No cause has been released yet. As if there wasn't enough turmoil, now there's issues with the insurance company and some people have suggested the possibility of lawsuits because...
