    Hen or roo... any guesses?

Not quite. Duckwing and partridge based colors, which are common among easter eggers/americanas, have marked differences in coloring between males and females.

    Ainawgsd's farm chickens

I released the youngest malines into the general population this afternoon. There was some chasing from the older birds. And I'm sure we'll have to go round them up tonight at dark. But now they have more room.the bird in the foreground cracks me up, I was trying to get a shot of the malines in...

    Hen or roo... any guesses?

Pretty pullet. At 11 weeks I would expect the comb to be brighter. The coloring of the feathers is also feminine. Tail feathers really don't mean anything at this age. Male sickle feathers don't come in until well after the saddle and hackle feathers, usually around 16-24 weeks or later I think.

    Fish Thread

Taki seems to be doing really well. I did notice a lump on his face (looking at my post from jul 5 it was present then too). Im worried about a tumor, but it could also be an abscess. The LFS I bought him from keeps their bettas in 5(?) Gal tanks divided into 3 sections and I've seen fish slip...

Roo or Hen - 4 day old Barred Rocks

Too young by far. Male barred rocks "should" have a larger head spot because they have two copies of barring. Someone once said "boys have a mullet, girls have a toupe" as a way to describe the difference. But it's something that has to be selected for, and it can easily be lost if not selected...

    The Sullivan Six

Well, I thought Lady Amalthea was just kidding about the whole broody thing, but then she changed her mind. I thought she was gonna eat my fingers when I got her off the nest to put her in the broody buster! On the bright side, having the top hen in broody jail seems to have made integration...

Any nail art enthusiasts out there?

And another new mani. The new nail tips are thinner and more flexible like real nails, but they also chip and break more like real nails too! Plus it's been so humid here that the nail tips were starting to lift. Time for some natural nails now.

Is this a group of pullets?

That's what I was thinking too. Hence the caveat "if these are saphire gems."

    🙏 PLEASE HELP 🙏 What the heck am I? ❤️ 💙 🐔 🐥

Very pretty! Age would really help in guessing gender, but she looks like a female to me. She has a crest, so legbar ancestry is probably accurate. Feathered legs certainly could come from marans, though the black feathers say it was not a splash. Do you own the parents? What breeds are in the...

Is this a group of pullets?

If these really are sapphire gems and no mix ups happened between the hatchery and you then you have at least two boys. Sapphire gems are a sex linked hybrid, females are non-barred and males are barred. The bottom two chicks in the photo are definitely barred.

Chickens attacked , killed and mauled by neighbors dog-

It's looking so good! I'd wait until it completely closes to put her outside. It may be there in a week or it might take a little longer, only time will tell. She will probably always have a little depression there in the middle of the wound. And she may never have feathers there, but once the...
