Now they can come and go as they please during daylight hours.

The baby malines! At 7 1/2 weeks these guys are nearly as big as the 10 1/2 week old buckeyes! My favorite pullet is the one with the white eyebrow. She had a white spot there on her chick down too. Kinda hoping she never loses it.

Also, one of the easter eggers laid her first egg today!

The eyebrow on your favorite gives her a very intriguing look -- as if she's studying her situation and isn't sure it's up to her standards :)

Congratulations on the Easter egger's first egg!! After years of having hens that lay greens and blues, I still appreciate every one of their colorful creations.

I released the youngest malines into the general population this afternoon. There was some chasing from the older birds. And I'm sure we'll have to go round them up tonight at dark. But now they have more room.

the bird in the foreground cracks me up, I was trying to get a shot of the malines in the background.

awww, sleepy ball of feathers.

We are down one cockerel out at the farm though. The little malines with the twisted legs was doing okay, but I was worried the older birds would peck him to death so I butchered him today.

He dressed out at 2.25lbs at 12 weeks.
