Ugh. And I was SO CAREFUL! I've only introduced chicks that I've hatched myself or bought from reputable hatcheries. Twice I've gotten adult birds, but have quarantined in my garage for over a month.
I have the two birds separated (separately!) and if one dies, I will send it for necropsy, but...
I have a relatively large flock--about 65 birds in three coops in a large pasture. One of my prize SLW roosters showed signs of a respiratory infection 3 weeks ago, so he's been in quarantine in my basement. I've been giving him Oxytetracycline, but it hasn't helped. He's about the same--wheezy...
Any updates to this thread? I have a healthy flock but just noticed today that one Black Copper Maran hen's eye is closed. Not swollen or gross. Just closed.
I have 65 chickens pastured together. No way I'd be able to give injections for days to all 65.
Other than isolation, what can I do?
#3 is starting to get fluffy cheeks, so I'm thinking Easter Egger/Ameracuana on that one.
#4 has smooth cheeks
#2 people seem to think is a Black Star/Black Sex Link
#1 might be Black Australorp? But I got some of them from McMurray last year and they weren't so gray.
This incubator reminds me of that old infomercial..."Set it...and forget it!"
Just add water every second or third day, lockdown at day 18 (filling tray 2 with water as well as 1) and by day 20 or 21, you get a box of chicks! Yippee :)
I've had chickens for two years now and I have quite a large flock (for a backyard girl) but I don't know what these are!
Gray with dark gray/white face
Solid black with black beak, legs, feathers--only white is on her belly back by her vent
Two striped ones--one that's super fuzzy and reddish...
Just wormed my chickens on Saturday since our egg counts were the lowest ever!

26/today!!!
YAY! Think I found the problem!
(Don't worry--I'm throwing out the eggs for 2 weeks after deworming)
I put the offending chick in "jail"--an over-turned plastic mesh basket--any time the chick was acting aggressive. After a few days of separation, the aggression was over and we couldn't tell which chick was the bully.
(I wish people would spell things right in their specialty! Just checked the Fayetteville site for a quick look see, and they spelled "cockerel" wrong and "Wheaten." This doesn't mean they're not good--I just have such a pet peeve about that kind of stuff! Kind of like the people that own...
My rooster is a purebred French Black Copper Maran. Most of my blue egg layers are Easter Eggers (listed as Ameracuanas through McMurray, I think), but I have three Cream Legbar hens as well. Not sure who lays what, to be honest!!
You can always order from a hatchery and split an order with a friend. I doubt that the Clifton Springs birds are really superior to a good quality hatchery, IMHO. There is also a guy in Saugerties (Randy Wilbur) who is always advertising neat breed chicks on Craigslist and FB Swap sites. I...
I'm about 8 miles south of Albany if anyone needs cool eggs to incubate. Not necessarily purebred but cheap and very fertile! $8/dozen.
We've gotten a ton of Olive Eggers out of these (Black Copper Maran X Cream Legbar & Easter Egger).
I do have my Silver Laced Wyandottes separated (1 Roo, 6...
