Hope I did the right thing..

new chickens, 4 mo old. Thankfully I had them in isolation. I have had them for 5 days and they started sneezing and coughing and blowing snot bubbles. We live in Florida and the hurricane is coming. It was a difficult decision but decided to cull them. I would have had to put them in the garage...

    Treat a bird in quarantine?

So if she clears up, she will be fine to introduce to my flock in a few weeks? (Assuming nothing else turns up?)

    Treat a bird in quarantine?

have read many articles that says that you should not treat a bird that's in quarantine but rather let it be sick so you can see what's going on. Just got some 4 mo marans yesterday. Seemed fine yesterday. Today, one seems a little depressed and is having a lot of poops that look like shed...

Contain the chickens or lose my husband!

Our eight chickens live in a nice chicken tractor with an attached small run underneath. However, we let them free range most days. We Live in a city on a pretty big lot that corders a nature preserve full of predators. Even though they have 2 acres of woods that they could happily traverse...

What the heck is this?? Poop pic

So I had my chickens in the garage for the hurricane with a tarp under. When hosing off the tarp poo, I saw this thing?? Eww? Ack?? What is this?? A parasite? Crazy worm? It is pink and stringy like intestinal lining but looks like it has some weird head on it! It's about 5 inches long.

    Americauna gender?

Yeah, I am thinking the same - white is girl, gray is boy. Especially if you see them together. They are from the same hatch and the gray one is getting quite a bit taller and thicker legged. I will keep them both a few weeks and see.. Thanks!

How do you know if they are sick or broody?

Our 9 month old Cochin suddenly won't leave the nesting box the last 2 days. Sits there all day. She looks ok but fights is if we try to take her out. My kids collected the eggs so she's not even sitting on anything! How do you know they are broody?

    Smelly chicks?

Yeah, I haven't taken them outside yet. I don't want to do anything to compromise the rest of my flock. I guess I will give them quick baths and clean out the cage really good and see what happens.

    Smelly chicks?

We have laying hens in the yard. They are fine. We hatched some eggs but only 2 hatched. They are 2 weeks old and doing well but they were lonely. Got 2 new chicks from a respected breeder 4 days ago. I noticed right away that her chick's had sort of odd orange poo that was stinky. No blood. I...

    Electric fencing for a tractor?

Ha! I'm hoping not to get zapped too many times myself! It's going to run on a timer so the plan is to only have it on when it's dark.

    Electric fencing for a tractor?

Would that electrify the entire tractor though because there are doors on the side so the wire does not connect all the way around the tractor? But it is a good idea. Maybe I can find a way to connect the wire by adding wire where it's not connected now. Also the wire touches wood all over, not...

    Electric fencing for a tractor?

Ok, I have the charger, brackets and wire and I have that figured out. I have the power supply figured out. I am still working on the ground. Do you have a picture of the copper coated stake/pipe bracket as an example? How deep do you think the ground needs to go?
